What happens here
Carefully insert the freshly cut drywall patch into the hole. The patch should fit snugly and be flush with the existing wall surface. For better adhesion and to prevent the patch from falling inward, if the hole is larger or deeper than a small switch plate opening, it is recommended to add small furring strips or a piece of wood behind the existing drywall to create a backing for the patch to screw into. However, in cases where an electrical box or internal structure provides adequate support, simply fitting the patch tightly may suffice.
