Our Supercharged Monte Carlo Has Fuel Pressure Problems... We Upgrade the Pump AND Wires!

What happens here

The fuel tank is reinstalled back into the Monte Carlo. Ratchet straps are used to temporarily hold the tank in place while the mounting bolts are tightened. All fuel lines and the new electrical wiring for the pump and relay are carefully connected. Before starting the engine, the battery is reconnected. The engine is then cranked to build fuel pressure and check for any leaks around the fuel lines and fittings. The fuel pressure gauge is monitored to ensure the system is holding the correct pressure.

Goal: Reinstall the fuel tank, connect wiring, and verify no leaks or pressure issues.

Tools and materials

  • Fuel Pressure Gauge — Monitoring fuel pressure to confirm proper pump function
  • Ratchet Straps — Temporarily supporting the fuel tank during reinstallation
  • Wrenches/Sockets — Tightening fuel tank mounting bolts and fuel line fittings
  • Battery — Providing electrical power to the vehicle
  • Fuel Tank — The main component being reattached to the vehicle

and see if we can drive this car. How's it hanging? Oh, it's almost hanging, but right now it's still sitting on the tire. I don't know what I'm doing, but whatever I am doing is not working. So, don't take those for me. I don't know much smarter way to do this. Basically, just uh got ratchet straps under there one side at a time and use them to crank it up until I could get the bolts contact or just I got it up enough to get the tire out of there and then did the bolts. But we'll like turn the key and make sure there's no leaks. I disconnected the battery when I went to go hook everything up because I didn't want to fry myself. Yeah, these wire cutters are like screwed up already because I went to cut a wire that was still live and it arked off the back and now it has a dull spot. These are brand new. That's cool though. Yeah, they have a story. Hatchet man Benny got these for us. And I messed it up already. Sorry, Benny. All the other ones are still good. We're still going to use this. I'm pretty sure I have the like the hatchet on my desk. I was going to use it to cut something. Like nothing that I should use the hatchet to cut anything with. It sounds better. Okay, so we just unhooked the coil packs to uh make sure this thing doesn't start because it's like 10:30. We don't want to wake anybody up with those. So, we can crank the car, make sure there's nothing leaking. Are you on leak patrol? No, I'm just hiding. Okay, I guess you're on leak patrol then. Nothing dripped on me. Now, we got this gauge here hooked on up to the Ken Shrader valve so we can see fuel pressure in real time while we're driving, courtesy of a piece of tape. Pretty awesome. Also, we're going to watch the pressure while we're cranking just to make sure it's got it. Well, that made like 70 PSI with the regulator at the same spot, so that's good. Ready? Yeah. So, ready. Okay, let's take this and get [Music] that what they say. Uh, can I I can't even make a joke without offending somebody. I know, right? I was going to be like, is that what they say out in the trailer park? I feel like I should be able to make trailer park jokes. I lived in a trailer that was smaller than like any living space in a trailer park trailer for like a year. For real. Yeah. You know what? If you get buttth hurt by that, I don't care. My floor was cardboard. Literally, he would Snapchat me and his floor was cardboard and he had a teepee like for his toaster because his toaster didn't toast his waffles…
