One of many obstacles you’ll face installing larger scale backyard spaces is working w/easements.
What happens here
Fill the fabric-lined trench with clean drain stone, also known as washed gravel. The stone should be angular and appropriately sized to allow water to pass through freely. Fill the trench almost to the top, leaving enough space for the geotextile fabric to be folded over and a layer of topsoil to be added. If a perforated pipe is being used, lay it in the trench first before adding the majority of the drain stone, ensuring it is surrounded by gravel.
Goal: Create a permeable channel for water collection and flow
Tools and materials
- Shovel — Moving and spreading the drain stone
- Wheelbarrow — Transporting drain stone to the trench
- Drain Stone — Creating the permeable layer for water flow
