Constructing Curved Sections and Edge Restraints

What happens here
As the paver walkway progresses, particularly near the front of the house, the video highlights the creation of a curved section. This requires careful planning and precise cutting of pavers to follow the desired radius. Edge restraints, typically made of plastic or aluminum, are then installed along the perimeter of the paver field. These restraints are secured to the sub-base with long spikes (nails) driven through them. Their purpose is to hold the pavers firmly in place, preventing them from shifting or spreading laterally, which is especially important for curved sections that experience more outward pressure.
Goal: Create smoothly curved paver sections and secure the entire walkway perimeter with edge restraints.
Tools and materials
- Measuring Tape — Measuring radius for curves and spacing for restraints
- Paver Cutter — Cutting pavers to fit curved sections
- Rubber Mallet — Gently tapping pavers and edge restraints into place
- Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes during paver cutting
- Work Gloves — Protecting hands from abrasions
- Edge Restraints — Securing the perimeter of the paver installation, especially curves
- Pavers — Constructing the curved sections of the pathway
- Spikes — Anchoring the edge restraints firmly into the sub-base
