What happens here

This video documents a travel journey by Josh, 'The Stoney Ridge Farmer', from Indiana through the flat plains of Kansas to the mountainous regions of Colorado. The primary focus of the trip is a visit to friends, Amy and Brian of 'Colorado Mountain Living', who are building a timber frame, off-grid home at a high altitude. The video captures the contrasting landscapes during the drive, the challenges of urban traffic versus rural roads, and an interview with Amy and Brian discussing their motivations, the construction process, and the realities of sustainable living in a remote, high-altitude environment. The video does not provide any instructions or content related to 'Native Grassland Restoration using Seed Mixes'.

hey folks this is Josh town a rich farmer welcome to day number five here on the trip so we left tractor time with Tim the day before yesterday you get a gap here we got to space this out a little bit because where we were and where we are now we were in Indiana and now we're in the middle of Kansas last night we stayed in Salina Kansas so from tractor time with Tim it's probably I'm gonna say an eight hour drive to Salina Kansas and from Salina Kansas to Blackhawk Colorado which is where we're headed Bridge bridge bump so two Blackhawk Colorado where we're headed is probably another seven hours and now we're about nine o'clock in the morning Colorado time rolling out the door going to have us some fun today and get up in the high altitude country of Colorado so Colorado mountain living to give you a little background and we'll sit down and talk with these guys here in the next part of the video but Colorado Mountain Living those guys are building a timber frame home living off-grid right now I think and we're going to talk to them about some of the struggles of living off-grid at altitude holy cow couldn't imagine living off-grid at 7,000 plus feet we guys stick around on the vlog today we're going to talk to Amy and Brian at Colorado Mountain living and we'll tell you a little bit of background about them all right [Music] so we're on the flattest place in the United States who are going to be in the Rockies those mountainous place in the United States check this out I'm gonna turn the camera around and just show you the difference in where we're going where we are it is flat not a tree in sight as far as the eye can see I really don't understand why somebody would want to live in a place like this Colorado is beautiful evidently 50-billion concealing the Chilean people think it's beautiful too and therefore we're stuck in traffic Kansas was better we are now officially in the Rockies baby Denver was stressful to drive through after being out in Kansas country wide open country who have a stressful we're gonna be pulling up to Brian and Amy's place at Colorado Mountain living soon gonna give you the reality behind pulling up to Colorado Mountain living where these guys live I'm not going to give you their address but I'm gonna tell you what this is way up in the mountains and way back in the woods [Music] same with you honey we sold Emily and I'll say man another thing everybody needs to know is that the Mercedes Sprinter van with no weight in the back will get stuck on a banana peel so I'm a little bit nervous about going up the driveway here but we'll see how she goes these guys are way back way back this is off-grid living this is Colorado Mountain living this is why I recommend this channel to you guys look at that awesome we're gonna get stuck red here we are big dog super frame I'm like no you're not really out the to tie hey guys we are here with Colorado mountain living Amy and Brian and we're up here in the mountains look at that backdrop that is out their front window once they get the house built that's gonna be out their front window I'm out of breath because I'm from 200 feet of altitude and what are we at here nine thousand three hundred nine thousand three hundred feet of altitude here this is high altitude living and it's best the beard fits but the shorts don't it is it was 95 degrees in North Carolina up here it's close to 39 degrees right now we were here about a year ago and I'm gonna post a link to the video right up here and they were just getting started building their house we were showing the foundation and everything so check that video out and we'll also post a link down below to their channel and another scrolling little thingy majiggy up here while they're talking so you can go check out their channel so reason we're here was these guys were in Greensboro North Carolina I worked with Brian at the hospital and met these guys through beekeeping and you know just general having the same interest in life so tell us and tell the world what you're doing up here what's your goal here I go yeah well first goal is the build our dream home mm-hm yeah and we're under way with that and just really live in the clean air and I'm living and you know get away from the crowds a slower pace of life I think and being able to have spend more time working on your hobbies that you really enjoy yep so you guys initially had a goal of building your house it's about 1,300 square feet you said your goal you built the timber frame for your home Brian did all the timber frame work and he's not a timber frame guy he's not a framer a lot of people go in their videos I'm like oh you're he's a pro carpenter he's not a pro carpenter but buddy's YouTube watcher so the reason why these guys channel is so cool is because they're learning as you're learning and lessons learned from people that have made mistakes and people that have done it right building a house here in Colorado the inspection process all the things that they're having to go through right now we're in a basement here in Colorado and we're semi off-grid there's no permanent power structure here yet not yet so these guys are going to be building a solar setup for their power possibly going on grid for certain things but I think you're kind of leaning toward what was it pure living for life is kind of doing so supplementing your power with something yeah exactly probably beyond grid and then have eventually add the solar so that we're at least you know having a zero footprint Marcelle and eventually that can lead to getting paid from the Power Company so yeah not a bad deal I heard you can put a wind turbine up here what's the matter what's the maximum wind velocity that's gonna be coming up through here I've got stories I was 130 miles an hour is what the wind load on the house is supposed to be designed for so Wow so we had lots of wind last year and we could easily and there's no permitting for the wind turbine really so if you're trying to move out here in the winter there's no permit you got to get your butt in there you get rolling with it so basically right now they're living in the basement of the home that they're gonna be building above it and then eventually they'll build a spiral staircase up into the building we'll take you guys into the house a little bit so you started a YouTube channel after we visited last year I said dude look at all the stuff you got going on you should start a YouTube channel he made us do it they start a YouTube channel and recently it started taking off and I just think it's awesome there's just so many projects here if you guys could see if they had time to show you all the detail of what's going going on here which I'm encouraging them to do if you guys could see it you'd just be totally impressed you know your background is what a nutrition yeah so you're a nutritionist and Brian's background is in healthcare so I mean nutritionists healthcare beautiful Colorado scene building a house what better channel could you come and see yeah Colorado Mountain moving we want to give people a taste of what it's like to live up in the mountains because it's definitely a new experience for us like we came from North Carolina hot humid weather and now it's like whoa four seasons and the longest one is winter so god I'm getting readjusted four to winter we're both New Englanders we were born and raised up there so we kind of know what's knows about truth is used to live in north are used to live in Colorado kid I'd lived up at Keystone Resort back in the 90s and and loved it and just got away from it and took about 16 years to get back and I would never leave again yeah the air is clean it is a long winter but you know here even though we had a long winter last year was still in the 40s and 50s even for a good part of it so with the amount of Sun that we get on the property and just in general it really warms up and there are many times throughout the winter I was in a shirt sleeve or just a one flannel shirt working on the house cool so you're not worried about freezing to death no now when it gets to be about 15 below zero and you're in around the space insulation so I mean yeah so we're doing spray foam insulation and so once we get that installed then it'll really stay a lot warmer because right now the heat just goes through the floor and up and out go so will the camera be rolling for the spray foam oh yeah yeah so we'll talk about details of spray foam insulation in your home and your cost and all that stuff it's different for every areas and the roof put on soon so nice nice so more detail Oh poke poke video video video so Amy's kind of the the motion and mind behind the videos and brian is kind of the guy that's just getting it done and she's kind of narrating everything and then once in a while she'll grab Brian and say tell them about what's going on so I'm sort of like so let's good stuff zero humidity 39 degrees right now and there are zucchini on the plant yes that's awesome my beard got fluffier when we got up on the mountain did it get fluffier I swear it did mrs. Stoney Ridge is right over here behind us she's our camera person right now so we're gonna take you guys into the house real quick just say bye to Brian and Amy for now bye bye we're gonna take you in the house here real quick with the end credits and show you what's going on walk you around a little bit and show you a beautiful beautiful timber-frame home and you can expect another visit here probably next year at this time or maybe even sooner than that so out of breath can't talk 9300 feet thanks a lot guys we'll see you next time on the Stoney Ridge farm be sure and check out their channel it's really really cool this is our stop number five for a farm stock 2018 our next stop is guy in Wyoming then our Wyoming life then Highbar homestead then North Country off-grid then off-grid with Doug and Stacy and then something in between it's gonna be awesome so stick around guys subscribe hit that thumbs up we like it see you next time wait a minute [Laughter] [Music] Oh because and then eventually they'll blow the stare of Becca Brian a squeezy did you bring pants it is cold here and I'm not a breath so I got 10 feet to walk and I'll be out of breath so I need a pound of aspirin tonight thin the blood or some other things that might thin the blood we don't do that on a Stoney Ridge Farm here we are guys north country uh not north country afternoon hold on one second [Music] ah
