Nothing like using a heat gun on a 100 degree day! 🤣 #build #deckdesign #carpentrytips

What happens here

Once the V-groove is routed, the composite material is ready for bending. Position the composite board on a stable surface, ideally with the V-groove facing upwards, allowing direct access for heating. Using a heat gun, apply steady, even heat directly into and along the V-groove. Keep the heat gun moving constantly to prevent scorching or overheating any single spot. As the material heats, it will become pliable. Once it reaches the desired flexibility, gently apply pressure to bend the board along the V-groove until the desired corner angle (typically 90 degrees) is achieved. Hold the bent piece firmly in position, perhaps against a square or a pre-made corner jig, until it cools down and solidifies in its new shape. This cooling process is crucial for the material to retain its form.

Goal: Bend the composite material into a sharp, seamless corner

Tools and materials

  • Composite Decking or Trim Board — The material being heated and bent
  • Framing Square or Corner Jig — Ensuring an accurate angle during the bending process
  • Heat Gun — Heating the composite material to make it pliable for bending
  • Heat-Resistant Gloves — Protecting hands from the hot material
