Newell Coach Air Bag Removal! Working on a Million Dollar RV from 1996: What's It Like?

What happens here

Identify the top air fitting connecting the air line to the airbag. These fittings can be severely corroded and difficult to remove. The creator initially struggles with a stuck fitting, even breaking part of the old hose in the process. He then applies penetrating oil (PB Blaster) to the remaining fittings on the other airbags and allows it to soak in. For one particularly stubborn fitting, he resorts to cutting the old air hose with a reciprocating saw to remove the airbag. He eventually manages to free the fitting from the airbag.

Goal: Disconnect the air line and fully remove the old airbag from its mount.

Tools and materials

  • Hammer — Tapping fittings to help penetrating oil work
  • Penetrating Oil PB Blaster — Loosening corroded fittings

easily so after monkeying around with that big fitting for a long time and i got it off i took the whole i cut it well you see uh this is the old hose this is why it was such a pain to get off it's all corroded up and crap in there it's typical of the airline but what happens with these is the hole that the bag sits in you see in there it's smaller than the fitting so when these are assembled the fitting is put in after that hole and uh you know most of these guys on the forum stuff don't even attempt to get these out of the bag because it's pain just cut them and get new ones so that's what i did i cut it i'm gonna get a new one no this bag is out yeah i'd say they were a little overdue there something date 94. this is an original bag original bag older than me i'm going to i'm going to try to do this one the right way instead of taking off the tank i want to take it off down here just because it's an easier angle to get to than the other one was i'll probably able to do it better uh but i got to cut this little rubber sleeve thingy off so i can get to it cool okay now the fun part happens suck it that was the second bag it's out i know i didn't film any of that either but uh i don't know if you noticed but when i kind of get in the work zone i just i'm just a bear i just do stuff and i don't want to like stop especially when i'm buried into this thing and like okay now it's starting to move i'm just going to sit here and get it done instead of crawl out get the camera fiddle with it like i'll just get it out you can imagine me using my wrench turning it half a turn flip it the other way turn the other half turn flip it back it's you know it's not that exciting the important part is it's out [Music] get on my lap now i'm gonna go pre-spray all the other ones the other side with pb blaster i still have to order those bags but thankfully newell is only a few hours away so they'll get here pretty quickly but my goal is to have all four of these front backs done before fl 2k and i got a leaky tag bag back there too that i kind of want to do not super important but it's on the list the front definitely needed to happen because if you blow out a front bag you know that's real bad either front tire front back blowout you're gonna have a problem so that's gonna be a big relief to get that out of the way [Music] i also have to source new fittings for the new bags and i don't know since that line's off i kind of feel like i should just get a new one made because i…
