Engrave the Map Details

What happens here

Upload your meticulously designed map file to the software that controls your laser engraver or CNC router. Adjust the machine's settings, such as power, speed, and focal length, based on the type of wood you're using and the desired depth and darkness of the engraving. It's often beneficial to perform a small test engraving on a scrap piece of the same wood to fine-tune these settings. Initiate the engraving process. For bathymetric maps, you might first engrave the fine contour lines and text, then change settings or perform a second pass to achieve a deeper or darker 'water' area within the lake boundaries. Some designs involve cutting out the 'water' section entirely to be replaced with a different material later.

Goal: Transfer the digital map design onto the wood material.
