Prepare the Screed Bed

After the wall caps are securely in place, the next crucial step is to prepare the screed bed for the main paver area. This involves using heavy machinery like a Bobcat MT100 mini-skid steer to transport and dump 3/8" screed gravel. The gravel is then spread manually using rakes and screed rails are positioned to define the exact elevation and pitch of the patio. A screed board is used to level the gravel, ensuring a consistent base. The elevation is set to account for a 1/4 inch compaction, with a 2-inch pitch away from the house for drainage and a level surface along the retaining wall and deck steps.
