What happens here

After a base coat of epoxy has been applied to the clean and prepared concrete floor (which is not shown in this video but is a prerequisite), decorative vinyl flakes are broadcast by hand from a white bucket. Two individuals walk across the garage floor, tossing the flakes into the air, allowing them to fall randomly onto the wet epoxy surface. The goal is to achieve an even and full coverage, ensuring the flakes adhere to the still-tacky base coat. This step is often referred to as 'full flake broadcast' or 'full refusal' when the flakes are applied until no more wet epoxy is visible.

Goal: Apply decorative flakes evenly onto the wet epoxy base coat

Tools and materials

  • Spike Shoes — Allowing movement on the wet epoxy without leaving marks or disturbing the coating
  • White Bucket — Holding and distributing the decorative flakes
  • Decorative Vinyl Flakes — Creating the decorative, textured finish on the epoxy floor
