Jeep LJ one ton Build Series, 14 Bolt Tear Down

What happens here

After removing the differential cover, proceed to remove the differential carrier assembly. This requires manipulating the barrel adjusters located on either side of the carrier. Using a screwdriver or pry bar, rotate these adjusters to loosen the carrier within the housing. Due to significant rust, a hammer may be necessary to gently tap and dislodge the carrier from its position. Exercise caution during this step, as rusted components can have sharp edges, as demonstrated by the presenter cutting his hand. Once dislodged, carefully remove the entire carrier assembly from the axle housing.

Goal: Extract the differential carrier assembly from the axle housing.

Think there was some water in there at one point or what? Jeez, these still spin, too. I had them spinning. Hey, look at all that water in there. You can see all that. Wow. All right. Well, I'm going to pull the carrier. I'm going to pull these off of here. All right. So, back to what I was doing here. So, in order to get this out, I might have messed up, but in order to get this out, you have to take your barrel adjusters here. I'm going kind of kind of adjust you guys down. So, take these barrel adjusters and just rotate them up. I'm going to hold this carrier while I do this here so it doesn't fall out on me. But rotate this up. Rotate this one up as well. This thing is rusty, man. What did I get myself into? Okay, then that should allow us to slice my hand open. Oh, man. Wear gloves. Wear gloves. I'll get this cleaned up when I go in the house. I'll put some stuff on it, but for now, throw a freaking band-aid on it. call her a day. All right, we're back. Cool. Just keep figuring this thing out now. So, put the put my gloves back on here so I don't cut myself again. But, so basically, this has to go in and this one has to go out. So, you take your screwdriver and you adjust them because back in here, that's where your third or your pinion comes in. Um, and then once you get it to this point, it's just a matter of rocking it out. Don't letting your bear bearings slip out here. And that's it right there. Okay. So, put this over on the table. Junk. That's what that is. That's junk. Okay. Okay, so now looking in here, I might need more or new barrel adjusters. Could probably just clean those up. So now what we got to do is we got to pull this out. So I Okay, it's just rusted in there. So basically, I took a hammer. I knew nothing else had to come. [laughter] Okay. So, that is it. A 14bolt case. I'm going to get this all cleaned up. [snorts] Wire wheeled all down. All cleaned up. And then should be good for our truss, guys. So, I just got done
