IT RUNS! Building My 2006 NASCAR Monte Carlo: Dodge R5P7 First Startup! (Oil Lines and Wiring)

What happens here

The creator provides an overview of the oil system. The pressure port from the dry sump pump feeds directly to the filter, then to the cooler, out of the cooler, and into the pressure feed of the engine block. The return lines from the oil pan and scavenge pump go back to the dry sump tank. He explains that space restrictions force the return lines to go "up and over" the engine.

Goal: Understand the flow and components of the engine's oil system.

Tools and materials

  • Dry Sump Pump — Pumping oil
  • Dry Sump Tank — Storing oil in the dry sump system
  • Fluid Lines — Routing oil
  • Oil Cooler — Cooling engine oil
  • Oil Filter — Filtering engine oil
  • Oil Pan — Collecting oil from the engine
  • Scavenge Pump — Pumping oil back to the dry sump tank
