Impact driver versus impact wrench, which one do you actually need? Let's get after it. These two might look similar, but they're built for two completely different jobs. Internally, they're roughly the same. They both have the hammer, anvil, and spring internals in them. This one's prioritized for speed and driving screws into wood. The impact wrench prioritizes torque over speed. The impact driver offers this quarter inch collet, which can accept your adapters or your standard drill bits. This 3/8 impact wrench offers a 3/8 anvil, which a socket hooks directly onto. Impact drivers are measured in inch pounds, impact wrenches are measured in foot pounds. Now, there is an easy conversion to figure out the foot pounds of this. This is roughly 2,000 inch pounds divided by 12 will give you 166 foot pounds. As for this one, it's roughly 250 foot pounds. Now, there is an adapter for both of these that'll turn this one into an impact wrench. And of course, I don't have the adapter for this one. Impact adapters are most commonly found in three different sizes: 1/4 inch, 3/8, and 1/2 inch. Now, there is a weak point to these adapters, just like any adapter, the shank is prone to failing when under heavy load, as where it's a lot harder to break your anvil. If you're doing light duty fasteners or light automotive work, you'll absolutely be fine with just your impact driver. Now, if you find yourself doing a lot of automotive work or dealing with a bunch of rusty suspension parts, you might be better suited with an impact wrench. So, buy the tool that matches the work that you'll actually be doing. Anyways, I got stuff to do. I'll catch you guys later. Peace.
