What happens here

This video documents the retrieval of a 1976 White dump truck from a repair shop where it had been sitting for 11 years. The process involves confirming the truck's operational status with the mechanic, overcoming immediate issues like flat tires, starting the long-dormant engine, and driving the antique vehicle on side roads to a different location. The video highlights the challenges of moving a non-operational heavy vehicle and the personal connection the owner has to it.

[Applause] Good morning, you guys. Well, it's a new day. Oh, I'm not looking forward to this adventure. Oh, I know. It's been one a long time coming, too. So, my old 1976 white dump truck has been hasn't been run in 11 years. And the shop, I brought it into the shop. I was going to totally go through a top to bottom, head to toe last year, and then last year happened and it never got done. And it's time to get it out of the shop. Um, I need to bring it home. Now, let me tell you a little story about this truck. When I was first starting out in business and I needed something that was just going to get me by, I didn't have a lot of money to spend. I had no spare money to spend. And not only did this truck get me by, but it continued to work for years later. It's not a beautiful truck, but it's beautiful to me cuz this truck helped me get things started and I want to treat it right and I want to get it out of there and get it back home. So, let's see if we can do that today. [Music] I dropped the truck off at Hippie Repair Shop about 3 years ago, and Hippie is kind of famous around the Twin Cities metro area, except not a whole lot has gotten done in the last 3 years, and I don't see a whole lot more getting done on the truck anytime soon. And Hippie wants it out of there. So, we've got to figure out a way to get it out of there and back home. Yeah, we'll take your truck. Are you cool with that? You got some tools packed up? Anything big? Like big wrenches or big anything? There's a big one. That's a big wrench. Got a big Yeah. better than nothing. Hey, I see you and Sam both have the same boots. Do you like those? What are those? Irish setters, right? Uh, Red Wings. Red Wings. But they're Irish Setters with the Boa lace. Are they good, bad, in between? What do you think of them? All right. How do you like them compared to your KE? Um, I think they got a little more support. Yeah. You know, anyway. All right. Let's get hit the road. We got a dump truck to go get. What does it run? I mean, do you even does Does it start? Hippie says he can get it to start. Okay, that's all you need, right? Huh? It feels been sitting in there quite a while. 11 years. Actually, now 12. Hippie probably don't mind as long as you can get it to roll right out of his parking lot. Parking lot. And then you're We're good. 30 years. And he's This is one truck he's sick of seeing. Yep. He is. What are you going to do with it down here? Oh, uh, lots of things with plant a tree in it. And the tree grows or She's already got trees growing in her. Oh, or itchweed. Oh, let's go check it out, man. Hippie sick of my dump truck. He's got it out and ready to Oh, shoot. Okay. Missing a tire. Oh, she is. And another one. There's the legend. Hippie is a freaking legend. Hi, Hip. Good to see you, buddy. Guys, this is Hippie. Hippie. This is the guy. She runs, huh? The truck outside. Drove it over there. Up the tires a little bit stuff. Yeah. Okay. We got a the door. The latches are wore out or something. You have to watch it before the door shut on the doors. Oh, so she won't The door won't stay won't stay latched. Yeah. Is she road worthy though? Can we put her to work? He was like, I don't I don't care. You didn't think I was going to say that, did you? Sure you can. Guatemala. You got a job in Guatemala. ready to go. You'll be top of the list right down there. Dude, you're going to be like the envy of all the drivers down there. Yeah. First truck out and last truck in. Oh, I am driving it. Why? Good luck. I don't like it when the mechanic that works on it tells me that. Be quiet over there, Jeff. You know, I still have hippie cell phone number. just block you. I do that to all them scam calls, you know. Just change that number. Yeah. You want to try to take side roads? I do. Look down. Wait, we can look up. Can we look up? I don't know if we can look up. Yeah. Yeah. There's nothing. There's no kitties. I'm like, can we look up? I don't know, boys. Can we look? I love hippie shop. that 14th 2018. I thought it sure seemed like it's been there longer than that, hasn't it? It's only been here 3 years. Yep. Yeah. Seems like it's been forever. Tell me. Is that the kind of camera they use like when you watch a YouTube video then or something? Uh, no. They usually use way better ones. Oh, they do. I mean, and better microphones and better everything. Hippie asked, "Do you want us?" All right, let's go see if Let's go. Well, let's see what we got in the back. Oh, hey, there's my spare tires. This is a day I have honestly not looked forward to. All right, here we go. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. How do I shift? I forgot. How do I start? I forgot. I have not driven this truck in like 15, 25 years. I forgot how to start it. There's a button and a lever. All right, that's the kill switch and that's the start button. Neutral. Please don't go anywhere. Please don't go anywhere. All right, just to be clear, we're going to take all side roads. We're going to putts. We're going to try to get this back to our shop so we can start to I I I don't know do what with it. I I don't know. Just not have it at hippie shop. Are you sick of it? I got to do something with I got to figure this out. What? You need to bail for some reason to get out of there. You want to just go around here and around the door here a couple times. Let me right in with this truck. They're like, "Put her to work." All right, I think we got her jimmied up pretty good. I'd say we're in good shape. Hey, you're in good shape. Yeah, grass up there. You got grass. What? The seat worked. Small victory. This is amazing. Let's get over that burning smell that I'm smelling is not God truck. Just goosebumps, you guys. Flipping goosebumps. I know this truck looks like a moving pile of crap, but it was actually fully doted before I parked it. And I think I need to practice, huh? All right, let's practice our stop. [Music] It's got a 13-speed transmission with the first five gears on the low end. The remaining eight gears get split between the other gears. So, each gear then becomes two separate gears. If you've driven a truck, you know what I mean. [Music] It's got a Cumins 290 engine in it. And to me, it just sounds creamy smooth. [Music] That's 11year-old diesel fuel she's burning right now. So basically my truck's running on kerosene. Heat. Now I got to freaking jump up. So Tim has to get in front. I got to set up cones. So, let's just put it this way.
