What happens here
This video details the process of safely recovering and towing a heavy-duty dump truck that has broken down, focusing on the controlled lifting and preparation techniques employed by a professional heavy wrecker operator. It highlights crucial steps such as connecting the truck to the wrecker's lift, disengaging the driveshaft to prevent transmission damage, and using controlled hydraulic operations for lifting and towing.

(8,721 characters)All right, we're back, you guys. And last time we left you, the truck was dead on the road. And today, Tim and I are going to try to get it undead on the road. So, let's just see how this day goes. Ooh, shoot. Battery's on the wrong side. We got plenty of Uh, it's a reverse-grounded truck. So, positive becomes negative. How the hell do we jump a reverse-grounded truck? Call Hippie real quick. Okay. So, now we have the positive, in this case, on the negative, and the negative on the positive. up to Bob. On Timmy's truck. We know that much. Hopefully, we can get enough charge that we can get her home. Okay, so it wasn't me. It was the truck that died. Cuz here we go. What? Probably fuel, huh? It's got to be the fuel. Uh, there's St. Paul police got plenty of things to do better than deal with an old dump truck broke down on the side of the road. Dead in the road. I would say we are dead in the road. We're not getting any fuel. We got plenty of juice. What do you got? You got your big wrench? We pop that open. Now, we got air in the system. I know, and I don't um We don't know how to bleed this son of a duck. Nope. It's been uh never ever looked at this one. We're not going to be doing repairs on this thing. So, let's call in someone even bigger than us. Uh, so anyway, we have a solution. And it's on its way. And the second thought was, you guys ever have one of those days where when you got going, you knew that it wasn't going to end the way you wanted it to? You knew it. With this dump truck, guys? That's why I hadn't picked it up in 3 years. Cuz I knew no matter what happened, I wasn't it wasn't going to end the way I wanted it to. I actually called the repair shop. They refused to to allow me to bring it there. Hippie doesn't want it back. I did find a guy that would take it. Of course, he hasn't seen it yet. Okay, you guys, help me out here. There's another YouTuber, and I know he's in Minnesota, and all he does is he like goes out and finds just nasty old cars, and somehow drives them all the way across country. I think this truck would be perfect for that guy. Uh, here's our Here's our ride. All right. All right, Matt, I'm broke down on the side of the road. So, Oh, really? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got that dump truck coming. So, I'm going to let you go, okay? Okay. Okay. Bye. The cavalry is here. Yes. Why am I so excited about spending money on a dump on a tow truck? Guys, meet Alec. Alec, meet the guys. So, hey, just so you know, we got a little bit of a load on. Okay. Okay, not a lot not a full load, but enough that I just wanted you to be aware of it, you know? What are you thinking, Alec? Normal Hey. Hook and go? We really hope so, but wait till we get to the drive shaft. Okay. So, how long have you been doing this kind of work, Alec? I've been doing heavies for about 2 years. Yeah? Do you like heavies better than Oh, yeah. Yeah? Oh, yeah. Pays better. Oh, pays better. It's more fun. I mean, there's a lot more to jump. Yeah? A lot more to hook it up. What were you doing before? Uh, flatbed light duty. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Back. Yep. Perfect. Yep, we're good. Heck, yeah. Heck, yeah. Look at her go up. Yeah, I love this dump truck. I don't want to see it get scrapped. I want to bring it back to life. I don't know how. I don't know who can do it. What do you got to do back here, Alec? Uh, this is a pressed-in drive shaft, so I got to pull these off. Okay. And then put a block on here and force it to pop itself out. Mhm. So, you're manually backing the brakes all the way off. Yep. But he was Alec was explaining that you got to have a special tool to really pop that out. But he says good old 4x4s work just as good. He uses the weight of the truck. Yeah, there's a lot of weight, man. So, It took some force to pop that puppy out of there. We need this shaft to stay straight up and down to get it to pop out, but it kept spinning to the side. Straight out. Hey, she shot out the side and turned, Alec. And Alec is one of those kind of guys that I know if he could just be down there, he could get everything lined up. But he can't be at two places at once. So, I'm going to run the controls and let him get everything lined up the way he wants it. Turn in. Clockwise. It turned counter-clockwise on you when you set it down. Yeah, she did. You can see it right there. As it's going down, so we're on a slight hill. I think what's happening is it's rolling down. Just a little bit. Good. Go up. And as long as the transmission is not in gear, the drive axles will turn, but it won't spin the drive shaft. And I'm only saying that because I'm figuring it out for myself. I'm thinking the tires are pretty old on this thing, and it's just on the We lost the weight on the two in the back. Hopefully, hopefully, it's going to go good. What do you think? I kind of forgot about that. It's a little nicer than mine. Thanks, Alec. This isn't the first dump truck that I've had towed, and in the past, I know that they've always asked if there was a load on or not. So, before I made sure to notify the dispatcher that she had a partial load on because they've got to take that into consideration before they send out the truck to hook up to your truck. So, if you guys are wondering, yes, you can turn big brakes on and off if you get yourself into a situation where they're not allowed. The jake brake is technically an engine retarder. That's what they're known as. So, instead of just using your standard brakes on your truck, or however you want to put it, you're actually using the engine to slow the vehicle down. Not everybody knows that. And the most of you guys know that, but not everybody does. We made it. Independent Diesel in South St. Paul. All right, guys, we got Ken from Independent. We're going to take a look at the truck. So, what's going on with it, Ken, is I was driving it down just to get it parked. My shop is right over there. Yep. And uh I think I think it's got The fuel's like 6 years old or so. I'm not joking. And I think she sucked up cuz she was going great. Rolling like a charm. And then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, she just dead in the water. Plenty of juice, but dead in the water. Small victory. We're good. Can you park it next to this International, Alec? Right here? Betty Boop. It's going to be here. They said they're going to get her running for me. So, that's going to be another video. Hope you guys enjoyed today's ride. I thought it was pretty darn cool. God bless you guys. Go get them. We'll catch you on another one. Hit that like button, goes a long way, and that subscribe does, too. You ready? Nice to meet you, man. meet you. Safe travels today. Thank you. And safe travels to each and every single one of you. God bless you guys. Go get them. So, one of the things I guess I would like to share with you guys is remember when we were in Hippie Shop? I used to sleep in that shop. I spent more many light many nights sleeping in that shop because what would happen is my truck would break down during the day and I would limp the truck into the repair shop at night and Hippie and his crew would go to work on it. And I didn't have any way of getting back home and I never knew when it was going to be done or not done and sometimes they'd work on it well past midnight, 1:00, 2:00 in the morning. They'd get me up and running and I'd sleep in a chair right there in Hippie Shop, set the alarm, get up at 4:00 and go right back to work. I spent many a night right in that shop. All right, you guys. Well, that's it for our two-part series. Hope you enjoyed this. Here's a little update for you on the truck. I brought it to Independent Diesel and they called me and said, "We don't want your truck." That would be the third shop that didn't want it. And I did convince them. What they did find out is it needed a fuel pump that got burned out. It also needs all of the fuel drained, of course, and a whole lot of other stuff. But, I asked them if they could just get it running so I wouldn't have to tow it from their shop to my shop and they at least agreed to do that. So, now I'm in search of someone that can actually help me put this truck back together. If you've got any good recommendations, let me know in the comments down below cuz I'd really like to bring this truck back to life. Not sure what I would turn it into or what I would do with it. I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts, what you think we should do with it. Let me know and um we'll just see what happens with this truck. If you haven't already, hit that subscribe button and about as always, thank you for hitting the like button and hope you guys, whatever you're doing, is amazing. God bless you guys and go get them.
