Wipe Off Excess Stain Promptly

over the top and then wiping it off with our rags. And it's extremely important to wipe off the excess after you let it soak in just a little bit to wipe off the excess. If you don't wipe off the excess, if you walk on the deck, say a couple days later or so, it actually will still stay tacky if you don't get the excess off. And it could stay tacky for several months and collect dust and show footprints. So, make sure you apply it and then wipe off the excess stain with clean rags. So, here's another quick tip for you. When you're applying your stain, your whatever way your deck um is running the grain, you always want to apply your stain with the grain. So, you're applying it this way, you never want to apply it crossways when you're wiping it off. Same thing. Good practice to always wipe it off with the grain. That way if it leaves any straits or anything, it's going to look natural and it's going to look like it's going with the grain. You got a close-up view. We got old Zachary here working it down in the cracks. Anytime we're doing deck stains, we pretty much use old brushes. And and when we're talking about oil based stains, we'll use, you know, old brushes that we've been using. And they're kind of like our duster brushes. We don't like to have to clean out any of our tools. We just throw it all away. So, we're going to throw away our brushes. We're going to throw away the rags. Make sure you let them hang out and dry or you could start a fire. keep spontaneous combustion, but we're going to just throw away our naps and rollers. We're going to be using rollers that are typically pretty old and we'll be using naps that we actually store in our van that are old naps that are just kind of throwaway naps, too. So, when we're done, don't have to clean up anything. Just throw it all away. It's pretty critical that before you apply in your stain, if you build the deck and it's brand new, to wait till the deck dries out so it accepts stain. If the wood's really wet, really green, then it's not going to accept the proper amount of stain. You want it to be nice and dry and absorbent so that a stain will absorb right in. But also, when it's not absorbing in, do not let it puddle or pull. Make sure you wipe it
