How to run a Payloader. Cab controls & basics for the noob pt 3

What happens here

The instructor guides the operator (his wife) through the steps to start the Volvo L120H wheel loader. She then familiarizes herself with the controls, including the steering wheel and joystick levers for bucket and arm movements. She begins to drive the machine in an open area, practicing basic maneuvering. The instructor highlights the machine's "bucket level" feature which automatically keeps the bucket flat, reducing the need for constant manual adjustment. She performs multiple cycles of driving, scooping gravel from a pile, and then driving to another location to dump the material. The instructor praises her ability to fill the bucket in one scoop and avoid spinning the tires, indicating efficient operation for a beginner.

Goal: Start the machine and perform basic maneuvers, including scooping and dumping gravel, in a safe environment.

Tools and materials

  • Dump Truck Mack — Target for dumping loaded material (shown in earlier clips)
  • Gravel Piles N/A — Material to be loaded and dumped
  • Safety Vest — Ensuring visibility for the instructor
  • Volvo L120H Wheel Loader Volvo — Primary piece of equipment for operation and demonstration

to the best of us. Does she have the machine How does she have the machine set up right now? So, right now I have the She's using the bucket level. So, she's using that so she can automatically level so she doesn't have to sit there and manipulate the lever to get the bucket flat. So, that's really helping her out a lot. Um, she's doing a lot of the things we talked about for sure. She's doing the initial lift. She set the tires really good job. for being brand new to it. Sure. See, this is a literally the first probably 10 minutes of driving a payload. And so, I guess one of the things that I want to let these guys know is that try to give somebody that takes it serious when they're training you in. Because really, a lot of these guys inside the industry, they may take it light-hearted. They may be old, experienced guys and they think you're going to pick a list this up intuitively, but there is a learning curve to it. Um, what are some of the resources out there for guys when they're they want to take this to the next level? They don't want to just watch a YouTube video. They actually want to Do you have any recommendations? Um, not specifically, but there are several like I know there's a couple community colleges around. Most states have like a program to to train operators over, you know, very similar to getting like a CDL license for a truck. Um, we're starting to see similar programs pop up for for operating uh heavy equipment. So, there's certainly multiple places around the country that they can they can take a class. So, one of the things that I want to forewarn you about is um seat time is one of those important things. I want to make sure that when these guys they when they're investigating which school to go into, they're getting a lot of good seat time, a lot of time actually in this seat of that piece of equipment because that's really where your skills are learned. Yeah. I mean, you can only get someone so far by theoretically teaching them in a classroom and showing them pictures that that that'll maybe get familiarization with button locations, but you need the feeling in the seat. You need to know the location of the controls that are on it to get the the feeling of the physics involved in operating the machine. I would rather have 30 minutes of paper time getting familiar with it and 3 hours of seat time and 3 hours of paper time and 30 minutes of seat time any day of the week. Absolutely. It's it's important. So, also this is almost…
