How To Remove And Replace Old Kitchen Sink Drain Pipe And Save Money!

What happens here

From the top of the sink, press the top portion of the basket strainer, with plumber's putty applied, into the sink opening. From underneath, first place the large rubber gasket, then the paper friction ring, and then the metal cup and nut onto the threaded part of the strainer. Hand-tighten the nut initially. Then, use channel locks to tighten the nut further, ensuring the plumber's putty squeezes out from under the flange on the top side of the sink, indicating a good seal. Excess putty can be wiped away later. For the second sink, repeat the process. It's helpful to have an assistant hold the top part of the strainer in place while tightening the nut from below. Allow the putty some time to set before fully tightening to allow for any minor settling.

Goal: The new sink basket strainers are installed into the sink openings and tightened from below, ensuring a watertight seal.
