How To Prep & Paint A Metal Roll Up Garage Door. How to spray a garage door.

In this video, we got a garage door here we're going to be spraying. And I'm going to show you how you go about prepping this garage door to get it ready to be sprayed. And if you've had a garage door that's had a pan panel damaged, you need to respray it. You're a do-it-yourselfer, we're going to show you what you actually need to get it ready to be sprayed. And then I also have other videos that actually show you how to spray it. But in this video, we're using a 3M hand masker. We're using 9 in paper. And then we're using 3M 2020 tape to actually do the prep process. You got the weather stripping the bottom of the door right here. You want to mask this off because you don't want to get any overspray on the weather strip. You're going to be masking off the outside of the door cuz you don't want any overspray on the bottom of your house. And then we're going to be masking off the the actual concrete below the door so you don't get any overspray on the concrete itself. And to actually mask off the weather strip, we're just taking the masker and taking this tape and sticking it to the weather strip. If the weather strip is dusty and dirty, you want to just stick it to the metal underneath. I'll run my my paper back to the the end of the door so it's tucked behind the weather strips and we'll show you what that looks like. A close look. We're going to take and tack it up underneath. So when we lower the garage down, this is completely covered. No overspray can get underneath the door. We don't need to worry about the backside. No overspray will go through the cracks of the door at all cuz they're completely sealed. And I'll show you what it looks like. See, we've put two rows of masking down that's below the garage door. We've run this row, the first row of masking, and it's got to be far enough so it goes behind the garage door so you don't get any overspray on the concrete. We're running some masking around the outside of the garage door so no overspray will get on your house. And then we've run our masking onto the weather strips right here. And we're tucking it behind and tacking tacked up. Just like that. Backed up, ready to go. We can lower our garage door. The garage door is lowered all the way down. And our weather strip is all masked and sealed. We got a spot right here that's a little come off a little bit. And we're just going to take a piece of tape and tack a piece of tape on that and touch that up. And now it's ready to be sprayed. Once this garage door is sprayed, we'll immediately raise it back up. Got my garage door all ready to spray here. And we're going to show you how I go about spraying the garage door also. And it's just a quick, simple process. We'll be using a Titan 440i airless sprayer. And if you're a do-it-yourselfer, you can rent one from your local paint store. You can rent them from Sher Williams. going to cost about $25 a day, so $25 to rent the sprayer. You're going to need a 5gallon bucket. You're going to need your masking tools, a 3M hand masker. You're going to need your paper and tape. And along with the airless sprayer, they'll give you a tip. And we're using a 515 tip. They actually spray the door. And I also use a 20-in Greyco extension wand so I don't have to bend over. Now, once this garage door is sprayed, before it actually dries, you want to raise this garage door up. If it dries, it could actually stick to the weather strips and when you go to raise it, it could actually rip the actual garage door opener. It could where it's bolted to the garage door, it could actually tear it away from the garage door. So, go immediately push the button and raise your garage door. Now, when you're prepping this garage door and you're masking it, we actually masked it to the outside cuz the trim is going to be the same color. But if your garage door trim is going to be a different color than your garage door and you're not going to be painting the trim and you're just a do-it-yourselfer, you want to take make sure you make run your masking on the rubber right here and bring it out so you don't get any overspray on your trim. And this we're just going to go back and brush the trim. And this is a simple project that any do-it-yourselfer can do. It'll just take you approximately an hour and a half. We set up and spray these garage doors. There's two of them and we sprayed them in 30. Titan 440 airless sprayer and we're using this to actually spray our garage doors. We're setting it it not full pressure and we also got a 5gallon bucket with our paint in it so our paint can you know doesn't spill and the pressure is set just a little bit into the grain. We don't want it full pressure.
