HOW TO PAINT ACOUSTIC CEILINGS. How To Paint Popcorn Ceilings. Ceiling Hacks.

In this video, we've got a acoustic ceiling or better known as a popcorn ceiling. We've already sprayed our walls and now we're going to go and show you how to actually paint an acoustic popcorn ceiling. This type of ceiling, we actually spray them. And you got to be very careful not to spray too much paint on because it'll soften, loosen the popcorn and it could actually begin falling off. So you're going to want to spray light coats, let it dry, come back and spray another coat. We typically spray two coats, one coat one way, another coat the opposite direction. more difficult to actually paint an acoustic popcorn ceiling by rolling it because it has a tendency to loosen the popcorn and fall off. If you're going to roll it, this is just the same thing. You want to roll a coat on quickly, let it dry, and then roll another coat. But make sure when you get ready to spray your ceilings, have everything covered in plastic. We got everything covered, wrapped, and then we're going to begin putting drop cloth on the floors also. Getting ready to spray now. Everything's covered with plastic. We've dropped our walls with 9x400 plastic. about 6 in from the wall. And then we drop ran 9 in paper with 1 in tape along the bottom of the crown molding. We're using a flat product from Sher Williams called Eminence or Brilliance. Gives a more natural look to the acoustic ceiling. Better to use a flat paint than a semig gloss or a satin. Semi gloss and satins make it a lot harder to cover, a lot slower to dry on this type of ceiling. We're spraying these ceilings with a Graco Rack 515 tip. We're using a brand new tip to lessen the amount of fallout and overspray and make it so the ceilings don't get too saturated with paint causing the acoustics to loosen up. It's all sprayed now. This is the first coat. And we'll let it dry to see if there's any light spots or touch-ups. Once the ceiling's been sprayed, you can pull the masking down immediately while it's wet after you sprayed your second coat, or you can wait. It's a flat paint, so you won't get any bridging. The masking can be pulled off way later. Even though the paint has been sprayed over the masking tape, we've gone sprayed our second coat on the ceiling. We've let it dry for about 15 minutes and then we've pulled all the plastic and paper off. Ceiling's complete.
