How to install a ChargePoint EV Charger in 3 Minutes!
What happens here
Since the electrical panel is likely full, it's necessary to create space for the new 40-amp double-pole circuit breaker. Remove an existing 15-amp single-pole breaker and replace it with a 15-amp tandem breaker (which fits two circuits into one slot), moving the existing circuit wires to the new tandem breaker. This frees up a full slot for the 40-amp breaker. Install the new 40-amp double-pole breaker into the available space. Connect the black and red 'hot' wires from the 8/2 Romex cable to the appropriate terminals on the 40-amp breaker. Finally, connect the bare copper ground wire from the 8/2 Romex cable to the ground bar within the electrical panel.
Goal: Connect the EV charger to the main electrical panel with a dedicated 40-amp circuit.
