How to avoid weeds in your paver patio (part 3). #paverpatio #hardscape #diy

What happens here

Given that the first compaction pass will have settled the sand and created more space within the paver joints, a second application and subsequent compaction of polymeric sand are absolutely necessary. Begin by sweeping additional polymeric sand into the joints until they again appear to be adequately filled. Following this, repeat the compaction process by carefully operating the vibratory plate compactor back and forth over the pavers. This double compaction procedure is vital to ensure that the entire paver joint is completely packed from bottom to top with polymeric sand, forming a highly durable and effective barrier against weed growth.

Goal: Completely fill and pack paver joints with polymeric sand to maximize weed prevention.

Tools and materials

  • Broom — To sweep additional polymeric sand into the paver joints
  • Vibratory Plate Compactor — To perform the second compaction pass
  • Polymeric Sand — To refill the joints for the second compaction
