How to avoid weeds in your paver patio (part 3). #paverpatio #hardscape #diy

What happens here

After initially sweeping polymeric sand into the paver joints, perform the first round of compaction. Using a vibratory plate compactor, operate it by moving it back and forth across the entire surface of the laid pavers. This mechanical action rattles both the pavers and the sand, causing the polymeric sand to settle effectively into the deeper sections of the paver joints. This initial compaction is essential but will typically create additional space at the top of the joints, which will need to be addressed in the next step.

Goal: Achieve initial compaction of polymeric sand to settle it into the lower portions of paver joints.

Tools and materials

  • Broom — To sweep polymeric sand into the paver joints
  • Vibratory Plate Compactor — To vibrate the pavers and settle the polymeric sand into the joints
  • Polymeric Sand — To fill the joints between pavers
