Homesteading Food Friday: It's simple, delicious and requires no fridge!

What happens here

After the tomatoes are cooked down, allow the mixture to cool for about 5 minutes. Set up the food mill over a clean collecting pot in the sink. Carefully pour the slightly cooled tomato mixture from the stockpot into the food mill. Begin cranking the food mill handle, typically clockwise, to force the juice through the screen while separating the pulp and seeds. Occasionally reverse the cranking direction to help clear the screen. Continue until most of the liquid has passed through. Dispose of the remaining pulp and seeds into a compost or 'yucky bucket'. While one batch is milling, you can begin chopping the next batch of raw tomatoes for cooking.

Goal: Separate tomato juice from pulp and seeds using a food mill.
