What happens here

Locate the desired position for the Pivot Roof Boot on the steep roof. Critically, you must lift the existing shingles to expose the roof decking beneath. Place the Pivot Roof Boot and drive the construction screws through the designated holes, ensuring the screws go into the roof decking *underneath* the shingle. This method prevents water from seeping into the roof structure through exposed screw holes, which can happen if screws are driven directly through the top of the shingle. The presenter emphasizes this is the proper method to install the boot and maintain the roof's integrity. Once the screws are driven, the shingle will lay back down over the screw heads, providing a watertight seal.

Goal: This step details the correct method of installing the Pivot Roof Boot by lifting shingles and driving screws underneath them to prevent leaks and damage.
