Fixing P0128 on My 2017 Jeep Wrangler — EASY Thermostat Replacement!
What happens here
Reinstall the air intake system and the engine cover in reverse order of removal. Start the Jeep's engine and let it run, allowing it to reach operating temperature. Monitor the coolant temperature displayed on the dashboard. Once the temperature reaches approximately 204°F (95°C), the new thermostat should open, causing the coolant temperature to drop. This confirms the thermostat is functioning correctly. Allow the engine to cycle through this process a few times. You may need to open the bleeder screw again briefly after the thermostat opens to release any remaining air trapped in the system. After the engine is off and cooled, check the coolant level in the reservoir and top off if necessary.
Goal: Complete assembly, verify thermostat function, and ensure the cooling system is properly bled.
