FINISHING the Raised Paver deck & curved staircase- "the Scooby Project" pt2

What happens here

Once all pavers are laid, spread jointing sand (also known as polymeric sand) evenly over the entire patio surface. Use a push broom to sweep the sand into all the gaps and joints between the pavers. Ensure the joints are completely filled. Next, use the plate compactor (with a rubber mat attached to the bottom plate) to compact the pavers again. This vibrates the sand deeper into the joints and helps to lock the pavers in place. After compaction, sweep more sand into any remaining unfilled joints. Finally, lightly mist the patio surface with water according to the polymeric sand instructions to activate its binding agents, which will harden and lock the sand in place.

Goal: Lock pavers in place and fill joints for a stable finish

Tools and materials

  • Garden Hose with Sprayer — Lightly misting polymeric sand to activate
  • Plate Compactor Tomahawk — Compacting the pavers and vibrating sand into joints
  • Push Broom — Sweeping jointing sand into paver gaps
  • Rubber Mat — Attaching to the compactor to protect paver surfaces
  • Jointing Sand — Filling paver joints to lock them in place and deter weed growth

because it's easier to do with the garden hose and cardboard boxes than it is when it's to this point you're like hey i want to add another two feet that so this packer happens to have a rubber pad that will attach to the bottom of the plate to keep that steel plate from marring the top of the pavers but if you have a packer and you don't happen to have a rubber flap like that well you can use a piece of carpet you could use a mud flap you can use anything just to keep that steel plate from scuffing the top of your papers blaine likes to leave his papers up watch you can actually see him sink he likes to leave his papers up just a smidgen to count for the settlement that's packers not broken [Applause] the steps and patio are all done here's what we get and these those ones aren't glued in yet so there's a little bit of gaps it's not going to be like that when it's done but this course and that course they're all done well if you remember me saying earlier we weren't going to glue these yet because we have to run the patio that's going to be out here right up against there and that's just going to make us make it easier for us if these aren't in the way there you go that looks good they did a good job it's hard to see
