Sand the Filled and Adjacent Wood Surfaces

Once the wood filler has completely dried, proceed to sand the filled areas. The video demonstrates using an electric orbital sander equipped with a dust extraction hose to minimize airborne dust. Use a medium-grit sandpaper (e.g., 120-180 grit) for the initial sanding to effectively remove excess filler and level the patched areas. Work the sander in smooth, overlapping passes, applying even pressure. Pay close attention to the edges of the filled spots to ensure a seamless transition with the original wood surface. After the initial sanding, switch to a finer-grit sandpaper (e.g., 220 grit) for a final smoothing pass over all wood surfaces to be finished, including the banister cap, window sills, and door frames. The goal is to eliminate any sanding marks or remaining imperfections, resulting in a perfectly smooth surface. Ensure all dust is thoroughly removed before proceeding with priming or painting.
