FAR better. #paverpatio #swimmingpool

What happens here

Lay down a layer of geotextile fabric over the compacted subgrade. This fabric prevents the base aggregate from mixing with the soil. Next, spread a 4-6 inch layer of crushed aggregate (like ¾ inch clear stone or crusher run) over the fabric. Rake it evenly and compact it thoroughly with a plate compactor, typically in 2-inch lifts if multiple layers are needed. Finally, spread a 1-inch layer of bedding sand (concrete sand) over the compacted aggregate base. Use a screed board and screed rails (typically 1-inch thick pipes or lumber) to achieve a perfectly smooth and level surface for laying the pavers, maintaining the required slope.

Goal: Create a stable and level base for the pavers

Tools and materials

  • Plate Compactor Wacker Neuson — Compacting the aggregate base
  • Rake True Temper — Spreading aggregate and sand evenly
  • Screed Board Generic — Leveling the bedding sand
  • Screed Rails Generic — Providing an even guide for the screed board
  • Wheelbarrow Jackson — Transporting aggregate and sand
  • Bedding Sand Local Quarry — Providing a level surface for pavers to rest on
  • Crushed Aggregate Local Quarry — Creating the primary load-bearing base layer
  • Geotextile Fabric Filter Fabric — Separating subgrade from base aggregate
