What happens here

This project demonstrates how to fix a common electrical issue where a light switch is recessed into the wall, often due to thick tile installation. The solution involves installing an electrical box extension ring to bring the switch flush with the wall surface, allowing the wall plate cover to sit properly and the switch to operate correctly.

Look at that switch, guys. All right, I'm on a service call. Customer called saying they have a bad light switch. And as you can see, the plate is not currently on. You can see the switch, everybody. When they got their tile installed, the box actually kind of recessed into the wall. They called us out to get this fixed. And I'm going to show you guys how to get this fixed. So, the first thing you want to do is take off the [music] switch plate cover here. This is called a decor switch. And this is a screwless wall plate. And snaps off like this. I'm going to get [music] my impact drill. And then I'm going to unscrew the plate. Just like this. You got to get one of these. It's called an extension ring. You can get these at Home Depot, Lowe's, anywhere. You want to cut the corner. Watch how it goes on. It wraps in like a sandwich. So then I'm going to take the machine screws that I took off the switch previously. There's two machine screws. I'm going to get my impact drill and I'm going to throw them right in. Boom. Now we have our switch flush. So, we just got to put the plate cover on and we're almost done, guys. So, as you can see, the switch is now flush, guys. Before it was recessed. Now, it is flush. So, all I did was add an extension ring and I fixed this customer's problem. You flip the breaker on and boom, guys. See, the lights are on and the switch is fixed. Boom.
