What happens here

This instructional video features a master electrician teaching his apprentice sons about the fundamental principles of coils and their application in electrical contactors. The lesson covers what a coil is, how it generates a magnetic field when energized, and how this magnetic field is utilized to activate a contactor, allowing control of multiple electrical circuits. The dad demonstrates with visual aids and explains practical applications like controlling warehouse lighting.

What's a coil? Do you guys know what a coil is? >> It's a wire that heats up and then it releases. >> Coil is a just a loop of wire, right? >> When you energize a loop of wire, what happens? >> It creates a magnetic field and then that magnetic field will pull against a piece of steel and create a contactor. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> You can take wires around your finger and wrap it and wrap it and wrap it and that's a coil. But obviously there's some engineering to make sure they're sized properly. But that's really all it is. This is actually a lighting contactor. This will control 12 circuits at one time. If a customer said to you, "Hey, I want to be able to open up my front door and turn on one switch and I want the entire warehouse to turn on." What would you do? >> Uh circuitation. >> You would put in a control contacttor. >> Okay. Okay. And the control contacttor would have L1 and T1. Do you know the difference between L1 and T1? >> L1's line T. Correct.
