Retrieve and Position New Drill Pipe
At 0:12 in
Drilling a well for the farm
What happens here
With the existing drill pipe secured, the operator at the control panel activates the rig's hoisting mechanism to lower the drill string hook. The second operator then carefully guides the hook to engage with the top connection point of a new section of drill pipe, which is typically stored in a rack alongside the rig. Once the hook is securely attached to the new pipe, the operator at the controls raises the hoist, lifting the new drill pipe vertically. The second operator assists in swinging and positioning the new pipe section, aligning it precisely over the top of the secured, existing drill string in the bore hole, preparing for connection.
Goal: Bring a new drill pipe section into alignment for connection to the drill string.
