What happens here

Once the plumbing lines are laid out in the trenches, connect them to the various pool components. This includes skimmer connections, return jets, main drain lines, and any auxiliary equipment like heaters, pumps, or filters in the equipment pad area. Use appropriate PVC fittings (e.g., unions, male/female adapters, reducing bushings) and ensure all connections are watertight. For flexible PVC, specialized flexible pipe adapters might be used if connecting to rigid fittings. For both flexible and rigid pipes, solvent weld connections using PVC primer and cement are typically required. Allow all connections sufficient curing time before proceeding to pressure testing. Unions are often used near equipment to allow for easy removal and servicing.

Goal: Establish secure and watertight connections between all plumbing lines and pool/equipment fittings.

Tools and materials

  • PVC Cement — Welding PVC pipes and fittings
  • PVC Pipe Cutter — Cutting pipes to fit connections
  • PVC Primer — Preparing PVC surfaces for cementing
  • Tape Measure — Measuring for precise pipe cuts and fitting placements
  • Various PVC Fittings — Making specific connections to pool components and equipment
