Deck Refinishing | How-To Clean, Strip, Sand, Restain

What happens here

After pressure washing, you may notice a 'fuzzy filament' or raised wood fibers on the deck surface, especially if the pressure washer nozzle was held too close. To smooth out this texture and ensure optimal adhesion for the new stain, sand the entire deck. The presenter uses an orbital sander with 80-grit sandpaper. As an alternative, an angle grinder fitted with an 80-grit sanding pad attachment can also achieve similar results.

Goal: Achieve a smooth deck surface for new stain application.

all right yeah so this is the first time I've used the deck stripper from Bayer to give you a little feedback on it it worked okay and what I mean by it is the instructions said but a liberal amount make sure it doesn't dry keep it moist and then between 15 and 45 minutes that's when it starts acting you can start using a pressure washer holding the nozzle at least 24 inches away of the surface and wiping kind of cleaning off pressure washing off the previous stain I did that I didn't see a lot of material moving so I decided to bring the nozzle a lot closer it worked way better but the kicker is this after pressurizing of the raw wood that closed it left a little fuzzy filament I'll do a little close-up here for you guys and I know that's gonna be a problem comes too new stain on so all I'm doing is I'm taking my sander it's set on rotary mode which just means it goes on a circle as opposed to the oscillating mode like most traditional Sanders have and then I'm using 80 grit to go through and so far it's turning out really smooth this is still the area I need to go over if you don't have a fancy sander like this you can just get an angle grinder and put an attachment wheel with an 80 grit sanding pad on it and then you can do the same exact thing so I'm just gonna finish this up and it will get ready to put the new stain on after all the
