CONCRETE COUNTERTOPS - Lessons Were Learned!

What happens here

Upon inspection the next day, the first concrete pour had failed to harden properly and was crumbly. The entire slab is broken up and removed from the formwork. For the second attempt, the concrete mix is adjusted: no flow control additive is used, and a rebar grid is again placed, ensuring proper elevation with spacers. The new concrete is then mixed and carefully poured into the formwork.

Goal: Remove failed concrete and prepare for a successful second pour.

Tools and materials

  • Rebar — Reinforcing the second concrete pour
  • Rebar Pieces — Breaking up and prying out the failed concrete
  • Rebar Tie Tool — Securing rebar intersections
  • Shovel — Mixing concrete ingredients and scooping
  • Wheelbarrow Jackson — Mixing and transporting concrete
  • Concrete Mix — The main material for the countertop slab
  • Water — Mixing the concrete

it's geared up it's looking beautiful besides a couple slight structural defects it's it's messed up it's no good it's no good I think I tried to get fancy with the water reducer and that that wasn't the answer that was not the answer uh it's been curing for like 24 hours and it's just God it's it's not right it's not right so the saga continues of trying to master these concrete tops uh shouldn't have got fancy the last one turned out great but uh well we're going to redo it and we're just getting more practice that's what this is all about baby somebody messaged on Instagram and said wouldn't it be probably not that much more expensive to get a granite Remnant for such a small piece and the answer is no wouldn't be a little bit more expensive it would be a lot cheaper cuz now we're doing this twice but what would I learn then wouldn't learn anything and we're going to freaking Master this and we're going to make some beautiful stuff so take two on second slab coming up soon just didn't Harden like at all I did I did read what the water reducer it can like lead to like aggregate separation or something and I did notice that it was like really sandy at the top of the mix when we were floating it but I didn't I don't know at that point it was too late anyway so I think we're going to try it again I'm just going to do regular concrete again cuz it worked great on the other one so
