What happens here

Utilize a Bernzomatic Map/Pro Gas and TS8000 torch to char the exterior surfaces of the pergola posts and beams. This technique, known as Shou Sugi Ban, calcifies the exterior pores of the wood, making it more resistant to weather and decay. Once the desired char level is achieved, use a stiff bristle brush to remove any loose charred material, revealing a textured and darkened wood surface. Finally, apply boiled linseed oil to seal the charred wood, further enhancing its durability and appearance.

Goal: Weatherproof and enhance the pergola's wood with a charred finish.

you can't see them and it looks great you guys you gotta check this out so check this out I said screw it with a one by one and set out one of the two by fours and might hurt them and it gives it a really cool textured look I could not be more happier with this it just to show you that design sometime comes like halfway through profit alright now that I've personally built that we are going to prepare for the environments and the way we're gonna do that is through an old Japanese technique called Shu Shu Gabon and the idea behind this through flame and fire we are going to char the exterior of it and what its gonna do is kind of calcify the exterior pores and kind of include them to prevent from the rain coming down and being absorbed through it the way we're gonna do it is going to reduce the burns ematic matt pro-gas burns really hot and it's gonna allow for us to carry on the pattern that we want number two we're gonna use the TS 8000 torch what I like about this torch is once you turn the gas on and you get the flame going you can lock it in place and then you adjust your flame how you'd like it so if you want to continue slowly that's fine if you really want to speed up the process crank it up and get to work that being said I'm gonna start firing this up and give it a nice good finish once it's all done I'm gonna take a stiff bristle brush get the char exterior off and then we're gonna seal it with some boiled linseed oil let's go
