(19,995 characters)over the last couple years saas have increased in popularity with tons of research backing up the health benefits of them the unfortunate part is they're really expensive they can range between five and $10,000 depending on the setup you got well today we're going to find out can we build a sauna that's actually cheaper and more affordable than buying one so here's our setup here I used to have a hot tub here but we still have the electricity to make sure we have power for it now my goal is to build something that's not too crazy I want to utilize the space I don't have a lot of it so one of the first things we need to start working on a nice sturdy base uh we got a bunch of lumber here about 26 2x4s for our walls and all that stuff but for the base because it's going to be only 5 ft x 5 ft for the platform you could get away with a 2x4 from what I see people building sheds however I wanted to make sure this thing is super sturdy and doesn't have any Flex whatsoever so we're going to Beef It Up just a little bit with a 2x6 [Music] we got a nice sturdy base here make sure everything's level it's kind of tricky because the slope kind of slopes away from the house right this concrete slab so uh had to kind of shimmy up the back but overall I'm pretty happy with it let's go bring that o be start slapping this puppy [Music] on we got a nice sturdy platform here folks uh I actually got rid of those little bricks on the sides except for that cuz I need to level it mostly because it it was too big of a step it's I feel like if you're cooking in there at 200° 180 and you want to come out for air that might be a liability if it's too big of a step off this is pressure treated wood sitting on concrete I'm fine now next thing you need to figure out is the height of this thing uh I don't have a whole lot of space going up here it's about I don't know arms length away I don't know what that number is but uh most saas are about 7t tall inside I'm going to split the difference create it a little bit shorter to get a more opportunity for a roof to be on a good pitch so we're going to go 80 in that's I don't know close a little bit over six and a half uh feet and I'm 6'2 so that'll be plenty let's start building [Music] walls I'm happy with the height to be honest with you I got another inch and a half coming cuz it's going to be the top plate you know combining everything together but uh not bad I was worried that we need to go 7 ft but this will work especially with the [Music] roof all right two of the walls are up everything's looking good the most important part right now is to make sure everything is still leveled uh once it's all leveled which this side looks pretty good we're going to make sure these posts are nice and strong and then when we put the rest of the walls up we'll tie it all together and make sure the sucker is not going anywhere he [Music] all right so this is going to be a little bit non-traditional uh door framing usually for door framing you would have a header going across here like a a a 2x6 um some sheds that are built and some saunas that are built they actually don't use it they just use uh a joint across it um just little cripples coming down in our situation I kind of screwed myself over a little bit cuz the height is 80 in and most doors are about 80 in that means we don't have room for a joint here we don't have room for a header now granted this is not a large structure it's not going to have a lot of weight on it so I think that we can get away with I think I think I think I think we can get away with uh just keeping this as is this is actually exactly how tall the door is for the ra opening this is like 79 and like 3/4 I'm going to cut that part off and uh yeah the door is the hardest part cuz you want to keep the section short uh so you know you get the most efficient use of a sauna but you also got to consider what an average size door when you buy a kit of a sauna they custom make their doors very small so you can get avoid all that stuff all right guys we worked so hard making our home so comfortable this is why I want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to prepare our home for the unexpected and the unexpected is the power outages living in Idaho seems like almost every year we get at least one power outage half of the time it's through snowfall other times it's through repair maintenance kind of stuff and it makes it absolutely miserable when the temps are in single digits outside and you're stuck at home not to mention being helpless well that is why I'm excited to talk to you about this sponsors of today's video jackary jackary 2000 plus solar generator is a home backup power solution designed to support a wide range of devices up to 6,000 W with its 2 to 24 KW hour expandable capacity it's equipped with rapid solar recharge which makes it reach its full power in Just 2 hours ensuring your home stays operational during outages the generator utilizes Advanced solar technology to offer a sustainable and reliable power source especially vital during natural disasters such as tree hitting the power pole leaving you and your loved ones without power heat or the ability to make food its eco-friendly design is perfect to maintaining energy independent and sustainable providing Peace of Mind in emergencies to keep critical systems running smoothly my favorite way of utilizing the jackary 2000 plus overpower generator is installing a generator backup switch this was installed by a licensed electrician and we have dedicated four circuits to power the absolute Essentials during a power outage so when the power goes out in the house the jackery system kicks in so you're able to flip the switches to the dedic ated Breakers that we need for example we have a kitchen outlet and microwave so we can actually reheat our food and cook anything we need we have a living room lights where we can gather as a family when the power is out we have a furnace igniter so our gas furnace can still provide the heat that we need to stay comfortable and we have an office breaker which Powers our internet router so we can still have entertainment or get any kind of work that's necessary to be done we have our extended battery pack capacity that's sitting on top of our jackery generator and it stores plenty of juice that we need during these outages alongside I have my cable connected to my solar panels in my driveway so as we're using the power we're at the same time recharging our battery system to ensure we have plenty of juice and plenty of power to keep us comfortable during the prolonged period of the power outage over the years we've been using a traditional gas power generator during power outages though they provide plenty of power the inconvenience of the noise complaints from the neighbors because it has to be constantly running in order to generate power and not to mention the constant fumes makes it very very inconvenient during these power outages to have consistent power that's not only consistent but sustainable but with the jackary 2000 plus solar power generator we have all the benefits of using a gas power generator without the inconvenience of CO2 gases or noise complaints or having to stock up on a bunch of fuel in order to power that generator jackary Prime Day deals start now from the third to the 23rd of July enjoy discounts of up to 50% on your jackary system plus use my exclusive discount code displayed here on the screen and enjoy an posted if it ever shoots me in the leg so I'm going to show you whenever you're doing Framing and uh you know it's nice and flush here nice and flush there but obviously this is drops in about you know 38 of an inch this is how you pull it together take a screw put it on the lowest part that you need to bring out take your pry bar leverage it against the one that you want flush that looks about good drop it remove your screw and we're back in business [Music] got our doorway entry here so one of the smartest things I'm probably ever going to do is anticipating where the bench is going to go you got to have good support systems on both sides I don't have anything here I only have something there and this is too probably long of a span we're going to throw some blocking there throw some blocking there and one more section here for the heater that'll be mounted to the wall cuz it has it can't sit on the ground cuz you know drainage kind of proud of myself at this moment so we're going to create a sloped roof here in order to do that there's two ways you can either make your walls and you know slanted you know frame them out that way which obviously takes a whole lot of mental gymnastics that I'm not doing or what you could do is build a pony wall here and then slant them from there on and I think that's the easiest way because all we have to do is put some bir PE on it slanted build the frame on the side and we're [Music] Gucci so you know what I think we got ourselves out of the pickle without having a header by having this pony wall we got three top plates plus the fourth one on top we got our own little joint right there so uh if I was a betting man I would say this meets uh all of our expectations that a header or crippling joint would need now if I'm wrong let me know in the comment section so we can all learn together but I'm pretty damn confident that that is uh is basically doing the work of our header guys huge announcement we're launching a brand new channel Mr builded kid over the years we have so many kids that watch our videos with their parents and it's super awesome so we had a great idea of starting a brand new YouTube channel with my kids where we build cool things for them like this crazy cool skate ramp that they've always wanted me to build they're building alongside with me we're encouraging them to explore their creativity and teaching them how to work with their hands as you can imagine this channel is super chaotic the process is super crazy but it's very satisfying to see the kids come up on an idea and bring it to life we're teaching them safety we're teaching them techniques reteaching them how to fix problems that you're constantly coming across so click the link in the description below or hit up Mr build kids on YouTube please subscribe share with your friends I hope you guys enjoyed because we have so many projects lined up and they're so fun to watch but now let's talk about a roof we're doing a slant we picked that number just to kind of look good I put my birds beaks or Bird's mouths whatever you want to call it so we have our top resting there and the back joint is resting there and the whole idea there is that if it winds if we have crazy winds which we never do here the roof doesn't start flying off on you plus I also bought hurri King ties just to be extra today oh a board fell [Music] down all right we're looking good got the roof done got the uh blocking for the sofits all in looks really great really happy with it now the thing's still going to be wobbly right now right the we need to put the sheathing on the sides the OSB it will tighten everything together and because it won't be wobbling I'll feel safe enough to get on the roof cuz uh your boy ain't trying to get hurt [Music] all right the sucker is nice and stable I feel comfortable going on the roof and start sheeting that thing up although I hate roofs and um even if it means it's a small shed looking like thing I just don't like [Music] roofs we are looking so freaking good on this the roof is done the framing is done the sheet thing is done we're going to start waterproofing the son of a gun so I got my house wrap uh got my nailers and we're going to start wrapping this up we're going to go from bottom up cuz you want to make sure the water trickles down and the other layer is covered you know common sense but man I'm so stoked for this hona all right so we got this thing weather proofed wrapped it with the house wrap got the seams taped up everything's looking good before we start doing all the siding on it we got to start Hing on the door situation now something cool happened with the door and something bad happened on the door the cool part is I scored this really baller door that has like blinds in it it's a double pain and it's all a low whatever coated glass so it's meant to like keep heat out it's a cool door the problem is is that it's not a solid core door which it seems solid but I'm sure it's not not as dense as a normal solidwood would be number two it's it has plastic around it and that's the part I'm most nervous about is I don't know if I get my heater to like 200° 185 whatever it is if that's going to start damaging or is this like one of those high quality glasses and high quality Plastics that you know have a a higher threshold well only one way to find out going to start installing the door and we'll get right to the sighting [Music] now when I say it's a slick door check this out I mean privacy shading and everything that would be so sweet if this worked efficiently but there's a big chance that I don't think it's going to work that great with the heat but um it a great trial experient and I'll keep you guys posted so uh check my stuff but in the meantime let's start wrapping this thing with sighting [Music] all right so we're moving to the front it's looking really exciting there's going to be a little bit of a difference how we installed the siding around the door trim here we're going to install the trim first and then butt up the siding towards it because we don't want to create this kicked up layer on the edge that you could see you could do that around the windows but you can't do that around the door so uh catch yourself before you wreck yourself all right this side looks good this side's not the greatest but a little bit of caul but also I think I'm going to find another little transition piece to kind of cover that up but we are finally got all wrapped up it's turnar to look like something that's more than a shed we got to throw the sofits on so I got siding material different pattern we're going to nail it underneath with Brad Nails not nailers uh so that it can be concealed more and the nice thing is I put these blockings on the side to make it life a little bit easier once we get there all right so we had a massive change of design plans as you can see I ripped out my sofit here um I wanted to have more Dimension more character more texture so what we're going to do is we're going to put actually tongue group cedar boards underneath there to give it natural tones and then paint this a really dark Moody color and I think that will make me really happy so what we're going to do is slap on our Corners here we're going to fill in all of our caul we're going to paint it and then after this painted oh also throw the fascia on paint it and then we'll be able to put the tongue and groove in without having to worry about masking it off because tap doesn't stick to regular natural wood all too well so that's going to look awesome [Music] we are ready we are ready for paint got everything cocked up exterior caul uh we're going to shoot some crazy color here this is uh from Home Depot uh it's the bear selection it's called Dark Secret uh it's the dynasty I guess the I don't know the model but the color is called Dark Secret it's black but it's got like almost a matte bluish tint to it very lightly I don't know I it it to me it just looks like it's matte black I'm not good with these kind of colors but I think it's going to look so killer with a nice Cedar accent to it and it's going to be the nice dark Moody color we're looking for and I specifically asked them to make it a matte color not a satin I know exterior you want to do sadden but I have plenty of shade in the backyard so I'm not worried about I'm worried about this thing looking cool the pink color is freaking sweet man I love it I love every bit of it now we got to jump on the roof now uh we got to put our underlayment down which I still have a bunch of my house wrap left over I figured this is like a glorified shed that's going to be a sauna so I'm not going to go buy another Roll Just for another kind of roofing underlayment so relax it'll be fine uh but we also got to throw on our drip edge got this stuff over we're going to nail it with roofing nails get the perimeter get that stapled in place then we'll th throw in some shingles fortunately we only have like 60 square ft of shingles shouldn't be too bad [Applause] [Music] I picked a heck of a spot to put this thing I wish I had more room but you got to get creative how to secure the shingles and the drip edges and all the fun stuff [Music] so originally I was going to use a metal roof cuz I've always been curious how to do that um I guess I was too intimidated never done it before if you guys have any good link suggestions for the next project i' love to hear them cuz the tin roof would have been awesome you know hearing all the metal oh not the metal hearing all the the rain dropping on the metal that'd be pretty cool but going to do traditional classic stringle three tab kind of layout full piece 3/4 piece and then a quarter piece and then we're just going to continue our pattern nail it right into the white line get your butt joints nice and tight and just smooth sailing from there [Music] [Applause] [Music] that was the dumbest Hammer technique you'll see in your life [Music] so I'm just dapping up with silicone the nail caps of the last row of shingles I doubled up on them to make sure there's no seams there and uh apart from shingle caps there's really not a whole lot you can do uh when it's just slanted like this so uh this will be just fine cover those up and uh we're ready to move on all right so this is that design change we're talking about I got tongue and groove beautiful Cedar going to line it right underneath there that's going to look so cool with this color might have to add a few more backers right there this little pieces but I think for the most part we should be good as long as uh I got good transition pieces this should go pretty well with some brad nails with the exterior all done it's time to move to the interior and handle all the electrical so we know that we got uh the Sonic heater is going to be right here we get the extra blocking in there we got to focus on giving it power uh based off the heater that I got which I'll show you guys later this is a six gauge wire that's what's needed we got white black we got ground and the most important part we need the waterproofing conduit for it so the plan here is going to be to feed it through here put a watertight junction box there run it across we're going to notch it put plates on the sides and kick it out that way so it can go to where my hot tub used to connect it's going to be a lot of tugging and pulling [Music] what [Music] so we have our six gauge wire coming out of this junction box in a watertight seal conduit coming out in a watertight seal conduit for our heater the next step on electrical is we need to put some outlets on the back and the reason why is I got a lot of cool things I want to put in here I got waterproof LED lights to illuminate like the bench and maybe a little bit on the top I got uh speakers Bluetooth speakers that are going in here they're Marine waterproof speakers so I don't want to and don't feel comfortable putting an outlet in here under the bench if we can cook this thing 200° I don't know how much that heat can withstand so the safe bet is to put the outlet on the other side so we can connect it there and not worry about you know frying the wires shoot uh I need to move these over to where it' actually hit the stud…
