What happens here
This project details the construction of a robust retaining wall using large, heavy Rosetta blocks. The process involves significant excavation, preparing a stable gravel base, and precisely placing the heavy blocks with the aid of heavy machinery like a mini excavator and a skid steer. The goal is to create a structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing wall, navigating challenges like limited space under a deck and working with extremely heavy individual blocks.

(7,206 characters)what I gotta stayed in front of you because of the sun all right what are we doing we're putting Bronco blocks up against a house not Bronco but we're putting uh uh oh it's called something we've never used before it's called Rosetta outcropping big block might be a son of a gun to get it in here but it's Gonna Come and start right here be about 10 feet out a little farther uh you know and then it's gonna it's gonna be a 90 going this way I'm dying out into the hill so tricky part is is it's uh some of these blocks oh yeah you got a footing you got the freaking footings right there all sorts of crap and and we're stacking at this tall and some of the blocks weigh about 1800 pounds so it's going to be a feat we'll see how it goes might be a real fun one hey I think he wants to do it on the street I know you did everybody's frantically waving at you so I think he's probably thinking on the street good job Johnny yep [Music] get that rock group back and uh yeah I mean we only need four feet you know what do you think they're three feet thick we need six inches in front and then I'd say four four to five feet back excavated [Music] normal retaining wall blocks weigh 83 pounds each the ones that we're going to be using today will be dwarfing those meaning we're not going to be able to set these by hand everything that we're going to be laying today has got to be done with a piece of equipment and normally that would be speedy and fast and awesome and perfect except we've got a deck right over the top of us which limits our range of motion and deck footings and a house that we're going to be fighting to crawl in between [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you he wants to dig face for two days oh yeah I'll show you that little device [Music] foreign [Music] foreign in front of her basement Maybe so just remember 33 in front of the white yeah is that that just gets us plenty of ways to putting gets him a little bit of room to work on there on that pudding post is obviously already in front I got a t-square I'll grab a t-square and a string line and we'll run it off if you are five this is just rough excavation so it doesn't it I would say that's pretty much five inches who knows if that's Square we can also get the t-score because I'd only get to sell five feet or whatever it is yeah I just wanna oh I don't want to oversize it any more than we have I thought you wanted to dig it all the way back to the foot in there [Music] so much all right so I'm at six tree frogs two snakes three toads and uh oh there's something else oh yeah Mouse from behind that wall there you go little guy [Music] oh there's another one thank you [Applause] yeah I'm sure it does oh she's floating a little bit that's good nope you're good you're touching you're touching on the bottom [Applause] you got a bunches under air [Music] so although these look like Natural Stone they are not they're actually manufactured by the same company that makes our Versa block standard units they just created a new mold and a new system and these blocks vary in shape and size to replicate what mother nature would do but they also have enough uniformity to allow us to speed up the installation process [Music] taste fingers out of the way am I dropping it out like yeah back back more yeah yep he checked [Music] I've probably just been catching the same couple ones they're trying to come back home and I'm just moving them the equivalent of hundreds of miles away there you go buddy [Music] all right straight in look at that tight fit you're good sideways uh yeah we can probably do that or is that about good uh I think we can work with that yep [Music] curl it in curl up curl it in are you talking to me yeah you can get at those now right I think that's how Blaine and I would do it I don't remember yeah that's what it was it doesn't lock itself you got it well there's a lot of options when it comes to Big Block retaining walls and a lot of these Big Blocks have similarities they typically have a kind of a rocky patterned face and they're Hollow core so you've got to core fill them to get them to work and they're typically square and so it kind of looks and you get you guys can just drive around and probably look over and see them that just looks like a bunch of square rock face cement blocks stuck together I don't get it the Aesthetics of those just don't drive for me maybe they do for you great for me no but these have enough variation in them that they actually bring that illusion of actually having a structural rock wall to the next level yeah lower uh little now he does oh not no more back up a little bit and lower the boom down I think you'll make it now yep but get a little bit lower so you can still lift it up so it's not sliding across the top of here too much just go across easier what if it's just dragging across the top it won't slide is easy if it's up of a pinch or two there you go there you go yep there you go a little more it says it gets a little touchy and sensitive when you get in here no nothing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] good morning everyone last day of building I don't say that come on it's downhill from here but so verse verslac the boys were cooking burgers and hot dogs and I didn't go but Alex and Tim went I'm pretty sure they tried to kill him yeah you got some food poisoning going on for sure maybe maybe he says planned for the day yeah I'm gonna build some wall yeah this is some pretty cool block to use though yeah I mean it's going in pretty easy too real I mean all things considered yeah this stuff was out not under a deck and we 've done yesterday oh yeah oh yeah I like it I do too I do more of these there's a lot of talent there's a lot of Tolerance on them they go up quick [Applause] [Music] ly just a little bit and then we're right here you know and then we're a little far forward you know and then that way or we just run it yeah you really don't even have to glue it but no glue it just to be sink this you're getting the Best of Both Worlds because you're getting irregular shaped looking Boulder you know rocks yep and it's it's a it's a let's go hold up like the Big Blocks yeah for building perspective this is easier than older I mean it's easier than Boulders by far but also you know just the the way it fits together is I don't know I was going with it but it's just oh my gosh it's like just a little bit hanging over there doesn't it look exactly like that here's the plan let's cover that up [Music] there's the one we're looking at look at that just a little six inch Gap there TT [Music] I guess if we would use that clamp and be there already [Music] yeah there's a deck there I can't go forward anymore at this point then you hold on you're you're tested you're catching on the other one let me split them up I like how this is going to finish off right here I almost need another one in here that's the end right the one on top of this one here yeah but sideways that way yes so that will tie it all together see how it looks [Music] thank you [Music]
