BluePrint Engines Factory Full Tour & Behind The Scenes: Engineering Dept and R&D Zone! (Its Wild)

What happens here

The engineer showcases custom-designed engine components, highlighting instances where OEM parts were modified or completely redesigned to improve performance or address common failure points. An example is a redesigned aluminum timing cover for a 350 Chevy engine, which replaced a plastic OEM part prone to cracking, and allowed for different sensor and crankshaft configurations.

Goal: Understand the process of modifying or redesigning OEM parts for improved performance and durability.

Tools and materials

  • 3D Printed Oil Pan Prototypes — Testing different oil pan designs and fitment
  • Custom Gasket — Designed for the new timing cover to allow reusability
  • Custom LS Oil Pan — Production version of a redesigned oil pan
  • Redesigned Aluminum Timing Cover — Replacement for a plastic OEM part to prevent cracking and allow for new sensor/crank configurations

sometimes we'll do things that are modifications to oem and sometimes we'll do stuff like these are one-off things that only we have this would be an example of one that's something that is a modification of an oem i don't know if you guys ever seen like the 350 chevy timing cover yeah they're usually like a plastic one we're having problems with those braking back here when we use certain oil pans they'd crack and then they leak so we decided to make our own version out of aluminum and the good thing about that is it doesn't crack anymore and then we developed our own gasket to go inside there so the gasket um can be reused where the original timing cover won if you used it and took it off you had to throw it away yeah so this one does that we also change it so we can use different sensors down here and we can modify this for different machining if you want to use different crank stubs dude that's pretty cool have you ever um just thought about i mean obviously you probably have all the different components printed putting one of these together completely
