What happens here

At the pool excavation site, highly skilled and certified operators, commonly known as 'nozzlemen', take control of the end of the high-pressure concrete hose. With precision and expertise, they meticulously guide the nozzle, spraying the concrete (referred to as shotcrete or gunite) onto the pre-installed steel reinforcement (rebar) grid that forms the skeleton of the pool. The concrete is carefully applied in successive layers, gradually building up the required thickness of the pool walls and floor. The immense force and velocity of the spray ensure that the concrete is densely compacted around and thoroughly encases the rebar, thereby creating an extremely strong, durable, and monolithic structural shell for the swimming pool.

Goal: Form the structural shell of the swimming pool using sprayed concrete.

Tools and materials

  • Hard Hat — Protecting the head from falling debris and impact
  • Hearing Protection — Protecting ears from the loud noise generated by the concrete pump and spraying process
  • High-Pressure Concrete Hose — Delivering concrete mixture from the pump to the application nozzle
  • Nozzle — Directing, controlling, and shaping the concrete spray for precise application
  • Protective Clothing — Protecting skin from direct contact with caustic wet concrete
  • Respirator — Protecting the respiratory system from airborne concrete dust and silica particles
  • Safety Glasses / Face Shield — Protecting eyes from concrete spray, dust, and debris
  • Steel Reinforcement — Providing essential tensile strength and structural integrity to the concrete shell, preventing cracking
  • Ready-Mix Concrete — Building the main structural shell of the pool
