What happens here

This project details the process of relocating a two-part manufactured home to a new site, including the challenges of transportation on various road types and the extensive DIY site preparation involved in modifying a steep, sandy driveway to accommodate the large structure. The homeowner explains the build quality of manufactured homes compared to stick-built homes and shares personal insights into tackling ambitious projects.

good morning guys I've always said you should try to do one thing a day that takes you outside of your comfort zone and today for me is no different I'm going to try to do something that I've never even thought about doing before and whether that's a skill or a job that saying still applies I remember I was 20 years old just getting started in business and I had landed a $4,000 job and I was so excited but on that same day I landed a second job which was worth even more $4,500 and it was that night I'm sitting on the edge of my bed and I'm going oh my God I got two big jobs I got to do and I was like oh I never had even come close to Landing projects that size and I landed two in one day well it was just a couple short years later my job size went from $4,000 and $4,500 jobs to my minimum project size was between 50,000 and 100,000 what I did is I just used those other jobs to baby step me and help me grow I use them to get comfortable with the process and then I amped everything up well today's job is no different I'm I don't think I'm going to get into this business but I still want to learn and grow I still want to expand I constantly want to push myself outside of my comfort zones and I know you guys do too so what we're going to be doing today is driving a house down a road that's in two parts then we're going to be get bringing it up a pretty steep hill then fand dangling it between a tree and a garage and trying to get it to wiggle in between there to get it set up by the lake so let's just go out there and see how this thing gets going all right this is the weirdest coincidence ever but I think my house is following me down the road right now I'm going to pull over and see [Music] yep that's half of [Music] her I haven't even been in that yet stop signs are optional when you got the the gold ring around [Music] them so the difference between a modular home a mobile home and a stick frame home is typically what this is technically a manufactured home they got to be built a lot stronger cuz right now we're going down the road at 55 M an hour and this is not a gentle Road this is this Road's got its own challenges to it so they they they use a lot of extra reinforcement in these homes just to be able to withstand something like this although there's this misconception about these homes like oh it's a it's a manufactured home it's cheaper blah blah blah they're actually stronger and better built than a typical stick frame home and they're L per square foot is a lot less I mean when you look at a a typical built in place thick frame home right now at today's current market rate you're at around $2 $225 a square foot a manufactured home like this will come in between $125 to $150 per square foot and it's built better but we got to get this moved up a hill yet and put put in its uh resting spot that's your turn dude yep he's got to make this turn wide cuz that's a soft Corner oh ult offing corner so these are soft shoulders soft Sandy shoulders here this is where it starts to get challenging and where it gets super challenging is going up my driveway I wasn't worried about any of these roads but now that I'm on them with them like oh my God I forgot just how Central you got to keep this load balanced cuz if that that's it's a really really super topheavy load and if that if that goes even slightly in one of those ditches those so those side ditches are pure sand there's nothing fun about this part of this uh video at least not for me for you guys I hope you're enjoying [Music] it but I got a lot of money riding on this line right here that's that's a lot of money sitting right there for [Music] me and that's only half of it we got to do this all over [Music] again and this is where we'll pull I always love trying something new man it's that thrill that excitement you don't know what you're getting into it's just like any job you guys have ever tackled get that nervousness that's that's what make what we do uh kind of one of those benefits it's exciting it's exciting to try something new to learn to grow to help you do it right but now uh that truck's not bringing this load up the hill there's no no freaky Dicky way especially now that we've had some rain all right let's go meet the good morning how are you how are you I'm doing excellent that was wild I'm driving down the road and I'm like going past the Friendship homes exit and I'm looking up just to see if they're open and then all of a sudden I see you pull on the road and I'm like I bet that's my house going down the road right there ni perfect timing then I'm Stan by the way Stan I'm John nice to meet you nice to meet you John today's the day huh well hopefully uh the all the rain come well according to Jake it's still on yeah so now do you set this first half and then go get the second half or how does that work I just go get the second half there's a whole crew that comes to set them ah okay so you get both of them here and then the the set crew comes out and yep you're drinking coffee and eating lunch no then I'm I come back to the second one and I'm heading way Pi one up and head Way North oh so you're doing two today what kind of I do one half the up north half today and then do the other half in the morning ah okay okay just cuz it's like 6 hours round trip ah oh that is way up North 1 2 three four axles underneath that I'm sorry what was that John I couldn't hear that Cru should be here soon I was told to have this here before so okay they can't too far behind me probably not well nice meeting you sir nice you have a good day there you are been working on this driveway for weeks whenever I can spare time Friday night come in after my normal Work Week get out here into the woods do a little equipment therapy that means hop in my skid loader and just start shaving and Grading and Contour ring and what I did so this driveway came down and then it went down and then it went back up at the road so it had it looked like that does that make sense I can't yeah that's how it looked just trust me it sucked and this is not my ideal driveway by any means if I lived in my ideal world I would have taken that driveway across that way just to give it a little bit more privacy instead of a straight up and down run but the county came in and wouldn't let me move as much soil as I wanted to move they put a stop to it so then what I had to do was B I bought 30 some truckloads of clay $5,500 of clay so I got a Clay Center so the heart of this driveway is pure clay like a square and then I contoured and terraformed the side uh with the amount of material that the county would let me move so they allowed me to take out some of that Hill there alongside of the garage and all of that went to the sides of the driveway and we can talk about how you bid that here in a moment but right now I got more going on than wanting to talk about that morning Frankie morning the set crew should be here pretty quick I just cut these at 3 in up or what uh enough to get a coupling on as Clos huh yeah we got to have enough to get couplings on for sure I mean we can't cut them too low i' rather cut them a little too high have them a little too high than a little too low cuz some of the might not even have to cut because when he swings in here might be even out of the way who knows who yeah maybe who knows right okay so this is a great side shot for you guys what I what I did with that driveway see there's the my neighbor's driveway and it goes down and up now ele our elevations on the road are the same she goes down and then up you can see my driveway over there goes right there so that's the difference but before what my driveway did is it went all the way down into the belly pan of this ditch and then went up like that I'm sure these guys did too they just fed yeah they did they did the same thing except I just did more right you going to bring any in any class five to put oh yeah but it's one thing at a time I just haven't had a chance yet I got my track machine here just in case they need it yeah that's what I figured all right well I'll let you get going I'm going to hop in the office here I see R text you better head in yep 104 awesome thank you very much all right catch you later
