What happens here

This project demonstrates the effective use of a Seppi M. SMWA Flail Mulcher attached to a skid steer to clear dense brush, including invasive plants like spotted knapweed, and smaller woody debris from fields and wooded areas. The process highlights the machine's capabilities for maintaining property, creating trails, and controlling unwanted vegetation without extensive heavy forestry equipment.

and I don't know why because you're going to have to fix this about your machine I got a problem this is you got to fix this about your machine when this happened my dad was across the field and I called him over and he comes over and this is him literally to a tea stop moving his arm like that and I'm like can you just can you just [Laughter] I know holy crap that is insane that's like diamond plated or whatever and then it's called a diamond back and this is bang Ben how are you real good are you Ben what company are you with with sepium sepi M okay what is sepi is that the like the owner's last name is the owner's last name and M stood for Maximilian which was the founder ah okay 1939. okay and we are going to be testing out this which tell me what this is will you yeah uh it's a flail Mulcher so this is a heavy duty flail type mower for if you're doing heavy grasses weeds it'll take two to three inch kind of size of wood debris as well this is a hydraulic version for skid steer okay and why would guys want this over a forestry hat so this one is going to go through a brush right uh your average guy that wants to make some trails in his Woods to clean up front his Fields he doesn't need a forty thousand dollar forestry Mulcher this is something much more economical it'll still handle you know respectable size material for food plots so now if you put something like this on your skid loader are you do you still need to have the bulletproof glass on the front and the full protection package since it's a mower and less of a forestry Adder you tell me this is designed to run on the ground so if you're doing a prairie pasture like this area here yeah no you don't need any of that material that type of protection on the machine it's going to keep everything on the ground if you're trying to take not a standing tree and you're lifting that head up in the air and then come in that type of protection that is required okay what about flow rates so uh this is not a technically a forestry hat although it does share a lot of the similarities to it how is the flow rates on something like this so this is a variable displacement motor on it so we can adjust it to the skid steer minimum requirements the book says 13 I'd say 15 16 gallons per minute to make it run it'll go that low it will go that low wow and then up to 35 or 40 gallons per minute we can adjust it up now if you have a lower flow machine will that affect the performance of it certainly we're going to adjust the rotor speed by adjusting that motor we want to achieve a specific RPM on the rotor okay if you're going through real heavy stuff of course some more horsepower and flow the better of course but it will work okay well let's get her off and then let's take a closer look at her sounds good all right all right Zach remember when you pick it off from his truck lift and jerk real fast back and forth right over the top of his truck bed it's not too bad for his first time ever running the skid loader you got like an inch sack don't worry about it don't go forward [Music] I'm gonna be kissing his tire even more [Music] keep going [Music] all right you're good down [Applause] [Music] up down yep right there so you got that much travel you can adjust your pitch your float you get the angle with those bucket arms so roll it a little farther forward Roll It Forward like you're dumping your bucket dump your bucket there you go well not that far but [Music] that's a little that's how you're going to be engaging with soil with the teeth yeah we'll find that sweet spot right about there yep a little more ideal you want this flat with the ground this part there you go this part part parallel with the ground parallel with the ground got it uh but this is a cast Hammer it's used for in a mulching industry when you're doing prunings is what it was originally designed for okay an orchard and Vineyard applications this curve actually creates a vacuum and no it picks material up off of the floor off of the ground holds it up inside these are swinging around and they come in close contact with these counter Cutters that are hanging down okay so material is brought in and it's shaved across those points all the way around here which helps take a branch and make a mulch out so my question to you then is because I'm used to looking at forestry heads and as soon as our carbide teeth start to fracture and chip that's a big No-No because we don't want one of them son of a ducks flying off and hitting us so when I look at an edge like this that's safe and okay and that's actually in good shape it's very good shape okay good to know see I had no clue about that I've never ran cast iron teeth before right yep okay and this bar is a roller so this actually acts like a lawnmower like when a like the lawnmowers have the roller decks on the rollers on the deck that levels that deck out that's correct that's what this does but let it ride on that roller it's designed to be sitting on the ground running on there okay so this is the this is the magic that gives gives you a level cut exactly so as soon as you find where you want to be you use this roller and you just I'm guessing to tweaked the front just a pitch of it front to back up and down a little bit but that'll set your height now you do something different too you suck everything up this style you suck up don't you Ben as a matter of fact so this one it cuts up when you're driving forward okay so your material is being cut forward as you travel that gets your speed on the of The Cutting at a higher RPM and it pulls that material up inside and therefore it's being coming down behind you so it's not going to be cast out in front and you got to worry about people in front of it but you do have guards up here just in case the plates are one option the alcohol chain curtain that can go on here as well two different options oh okay why would you want this option over a chain curtain these are used when you have a lot of sticks because nothing will poke into them okay if you have sticks and branches on the ground that you're trying to control chains will hook in them and so this is a preferred method in that application and a lot of grass in areas where you don't have that then they like to change okay this is hydraulic drive hydraulic driven okay three lines pressure return indicator and that's an important thing because not all machines have the three lines that is something that because this unit is made for a standard flow lower flow hydraulic machines that is something you've got to make sure you've got the case drain line on your skid steer just operate it safely I also see fast slow I see some adjustments right here what are we looking at with that that is the adjustment for the rotor speed no that's how you adjust it all we got to do is we loosen this nut and if we want to speed it up we tap it towards the rabbet if we want to slow it down we move it towards the snail okay good morning sunshine oh good morning to you too honey I was actually talking to you about all right all right so we are being our field is being invaded these are not native plants right here right yeah those guys are evil okay so tell me about them a little bit will you I don't know anything I think most of what I know is that maybe it's spotted nap weed I'm pretty sure okay it hurts to touch yes it does and um and what it does is it also change Alters the soil chemistry so that other plants hey come on can't grow so yeah yeah it's it's literally taking over like after the years of being here you could see a significant difference just in three years yeah this flower and it's slowly creeping over the whole property now and there's all sorts of amazing plants here raspberries blueberries blackberries yarrow black-eyed Susan like and it's just taking over all of these guys the problem is though we have some good ones mixed in with the bad ones and stuff that we want to save that look identical yeah right so let's um pretty good what is that called the Bumblebee weed or something bee balm right here so this is yeah I'll look at you you already know you don't even need me well you taught me right I had no clue so here's bee bomb you want to hold the bee bomb for me yeah same color same shape different size and here is the invasive it is like yeah pretty much the same color but obviously very different from far away though it would probably be harder to tell yeah you just see the purple but yeah bee balm is amazing look it's a super big pollinator plant the the good one the good native plant yes the the bees and the butterflies and it's medicinal for us as well it's got different properties also natural bug repellent which is cool but as I look out here I found one bee balm and the rest of this is and this this didn't exist a couple of years back oh yeah here's a nice path to the balm and then there's you know like this is Black Eyed Susan which I really want to like Eco princess and stuff yep so we got to kind of go through here and find the localized heavy spots of this invasive plant evil every villain is lemons evil if you know where that is quoted from you are awesome that's all I'm gonna say yeah you're part of the cool people club like Cassidy and I evil every villain yes before it seems that's the point just spews it everywhere and it'll never stop spewing it so he's gonna get it before before it seems which is awesome fortunately I won't get the roots but it will get a lot of it'll stop it from seeding so we're gonna at least slow it down and then to get it from the roots I don't even know what to do I've just been slowly like pulling them off yep like patch back because if we chilled the field all we're doing is cultivating it and spreading it worse yeah so a lot of people don't realize [Music] why am I going up and down it's because we are aiming just for the spotted nap lead and trying to preserve the natural grasses that are here um it's not a perfect plan but we don't want to treat it with chemicals we don't want to spray this field so we had some guy come in here and spray it with 240 and it's against what we're trying to do so we're gonna whatever I mean I don't have a perfect plan to control that stuff in here except for find it decimate it and encourage the native plants hey have you met my cameraman Zach by the way I didn't introduce you no Zach's supposed to be you know running the there we go there we go here we go this is what we're looking at Ben so this is perfect it's the float function yeah the floor I've never cleaned this this clean in my entire life and I've been back here a couple two three times trying I mean there's a brush pile there I pushed up last year trying to get this and I can't do it that just it's that it's that that float mechanism allows us yeah holy this is incredible this is incredible trails in the woods banding Farm fields yeah I can see that [Music] look at me and I don't know why because you're gonna have to fix this about your machine I got a problem this is you got to fix this about your machine that son of a duck they're a different machines for that but even that it actually floated up and over and it didn't really it didn't bind it cameras actually will allow them to get out of the way [Music] as soon as I went over I'm like oh crap there better there must be something underneath there and I backed up and I looked I'm like well the rock actually isn't that damaged yeah and you don't see any damage on the teeth which means they they did their job well I got a building pad to clear so I'm gonna keep going this way uh yeah what does a unit like this go for Ben uh depending upon size your mid to Upper teens okay and let's just say because I mean this thing is is not going to handle you know trees it's not going to handle what Zach is sitting on right but it's gonna it's handling everything that I've thrown at it underneath the underbrush how do we compare this to a actual forestry had then so a forestry Mulcher of course is what you'd want to take on this tree that Zach sitting on that thing when you get stuff up three inch and larger in diameter that you want to clear something like this is exactly what you're talking about it's taking out the brush the understory is what it's actually designed to do and it's less than half the price of a true forestry mulcher well yeah because a true forestry had for a similar size wouldn't that be in the 30 to 40 Grand range maybe you're upwards forty thousand dollars and you need a ballistic door yes and you need a full forestry package on your on your skid loader or your loader Hydraulics high flow Hydraulics I've got low flow I've got a plastic door and I am doing all of the work that I need to besides cut these trees down which I don't cut down with the forestry had anyway because that's firewood for me this is just so much more impressive than I thought it was gonna do we're not even drinking fuel either on the machine like that thing is just sipping sipping fuel it's not like it's it feels like it's even really working it hard a little warm but it's also a warm day so it's 94 degrees out so it's gonna be hot but I mean hell we've been working here all day long and we're not even done we haven't burned through a quarter tank of fuel I bet you would have burned through half a tank plowing all right Ben well thanks for coming out into the woods with me yeah appreciate it's been fun okay so if guys wanted one of these on their own what would they do where would they go yeah well I first I would reach out to your local sepi dealer if you're not sure who that is just go to seppy.com we have a dealer locator on there or shoot us an email and we'll get you in touch with somebody and one last wrap up can you tell me the approximate price range of this one and the units that are above this one because this is the baby unit of them all right Yep this is the smaller unit and it's going to be around the fifteen thousand dollar price range okay and the next couple sizes up will get you up close to 20 000. okay for that flail style mulcher for this kind of a brush kind of more flail Mulcher okay is there a warranty on them yeah one year parts and labor warranty okay our warehouses in Cincinnati Ohio where we stock machines parts and everything comes out of there all right very good all right guys well that's it for this video I hope you guys enjoy the right I'll tell you straight up this may be one of my new favorites glad to hear it yeah this is incredible worked so performed so much better than anything that I've used besides of drum style forestry that's the only thing I've I've seen that will do this but I think I like this better I'm not joking I think I like this better I don't have to have a freaking protective cage on my my loader I like the fact that it sucks it up into it so I'm not throwing stuff I don't have to worry about Zach getting hit or you getting hit or me getting hit it just kind of does its thing and uh yeah it's it's it's amazing it's tough to beat in its intended application yup yes hey you're Mike Pence in it there you go all right that's it for this one he had a big fly on his head [Laughter] no he's a he's all right all right guys that's it for this one God bless go get him you guys we will catch you guys on another one oh you wanna see what I did yeah all right I'll show you the camera's jiggling so much [Music] this was a solid wall of vegetation here we go this is what we're looking at Ben so this is perfect for this machine and now we actually have a building pad with a view well yeah because we couldn't get back here where in the middle yeah I wasn't going to mow them down I'm gonna go go wide enough to get in and out with a truck and uh that's it yeah I think we're I think this is great A nice this is a great building pad how's it the machine that is that might be the best freaking for it's not a forestry head but it might be the best land clearing brush attachment I've ever used because it did this and then when she's riding her four-wheeler back she suddenly stops and starts yelling through the woods dad I might have screwed up really bad and I rush over to the four-wheeler and all I see is blood oh my God look at the amount of blood go look at the four-wheeler four-wheeler is coming it looks it doesn't even look that bad now what's that what's the lesson we learned don't ride a four-wheeler without shoes no yeah maybe maybe you hippies need to stick some protective gear on your feet she's on one side and she stops here there we go Dad I got up it's like this is what I rush over to see blood squirting everywhere and she's holding her foot and she's breathing heavy and some some kids learn the hard way what are you saying I should have told her not to drive four-wheeler without shoes on I have told her many times okay what kind of flour do you need to rub on that then oxide Daisy [Music] very good for wound let's see what that crap is this is just iodine dad I don't know if people want to see this when this happened my dad was across the field and I called him over and he comes over and this is him literally to a teeth stop moving his arm like that and I'm like can you just [Laughter] freaking me out more it was like two minutes straight I don't like blood no you don't like any wounds I remember that it was always mom yeah that we ran to yeah we'll just be like nope you better call her she's got 100 miles to get up here to save these things and that it ain't gonna happen with Dad God bless and go get him you guys stay safe out there
