What happens here

This DIY project demonstrates how to identify and repair a common P-trap leak under a sink. The leak is caused by a raised UPC stamp on the drain pipe preventing the P-trap's washer from seating properly. The solution involves disassembling the P-trap, cutting the problematic section of the pipe, installing a new fitting with ABS cement, cleaning and reassembling the P-trap, and finally testing for a watertight seal.

Oh yeah, these guys were dopers. Cheney, you see that right there? That's bumpy, that's the UPC stamp. This washer right here was sitting right on that and guess what, it's never gonna seal easy fix. Chop this off, sit it back just a little bit more. Or you could just take a knife and scrape this label off, but it's a little too close to the bend for my liking. You wanna clean the pipe. This makes light work of cutting PVC and tight spaces. Nice flush cut right against the fitting. Get all those burrs cleaned off inside and out. Some glue, quarter turn. Get this all cleaned up. There's no sense in throwing it away. It's just a little dirty. On some water through it, there's no leaks.
