What happens here

Before beginning any physical work, thoroughly plan the layout of the paver patio and pool deck. This includes marking out the checkerboard pattern, defining the pool deck's perimeter, and outlining the fire pit area. Proper planning should also involve considering the overall grade for drainage, calculating the required materials (pavers, base materials, sand, etc.), and ensuring that all underground utilities are located and marked to prevent damage during excavation. Excavate the area to the required depth, typically 6 to 12 inches, depending on soil type and expected traffic. Compact the sub-grade thoroughly using a plate compactor to create a stable foundation.

Goal: Establish the project layout and prepare a stable and well-drained sub-base.

Tools and materials

  • Marking Paint Rust-Oleum — Marking excavation lines and layout on the ground
  • Plate Compactor Wacker Neuson — Compacting the soil sub-grade to ensure a stable foundation
  • Rake True Temper — Rough leveling of the excavated area
  • Shovel Fiskars — Excavating soil for the paver base
  • Tape Measure — Measuring and marking the project area dimensions
