What happens here

Once all pavers for both the patio, pool deck, and fire pit area are laid, install edge restraints around the entire perimeter of the paved surfaces. These restraints are typically made of plastic or metal and are secured with landscape spikes, preventing the pavers from shifting or spreading over time. After installing edge restraints, compact the entire paver surface thoroughly using a plate compactor. Make several passes in different directions to ensure all pavers are firmly settled into the bedding sand. Finally, sweep polymeric sand into all the paver joints. Use a push broom to work the sand deep into the joints. Once the joints are filled, lightly mist the entire surface with water, following the polymeric sand manufacturer's instructions, to activate the binding agents and allow the sand to harden, locking the pavers in place and inhibiting weed growth.

Goal: Secure the pavers, fill the joints, and finalize the installation for durability.

Tools and materials

  • Edge Restraints Techniseal — Securing the perimeter of the paver installation
  • Landscape Spikes Grip-Rite — Securing the edge restraints into the base
