What happens here

Once all pavers are laid and edge restraints are secured, the border needs a final compaction to lock everything into place. Use a plate compactor over the entire surface of the laid pavers. For areas close to structures or for very tight curves, a hand tamper might be more suitable. After compaction, sweep polymeric sand over the entire paver surface, ensuring it thoroughly fills all the joints between the pavers. Use a stiff-bristled push broom to work the sand deeply into every joint. Carefully blow off any excess sand from the paver surface using a leaf blower, then lightly mist the area with water according to the polymeric sand manufacturer's instructions. This activates the binding agent in the sand, causing it to harden and effectively locking the pavers, preventing weed growth, and inhibiting insect infestation, contributing to the durable and 'perfect' finish seen in the video.

Goal: Lock pavers in place, fill joints, and create a durable, weed-resistant finish.

Tools and materials

  • Garden Hose with Fine Spray Nozzle — Misting the polymeric sand to activate its binding agents
  • Leaf Blower — Blowing off any excess polymeric sand from the paver surface before watering
  • Plate Compactor — Final compaction of the laid pavers to settle them and achieve a uniform surface
  • Stiff-bristled Push Broom — Sweeping polymeric sand into the paver joints
  • Polymeric Sand — Filling and hardening the paver joints to lock them in place and prevent weeds
