Assemble Privacy Screen Panels

What happens here
On a flat, stable surface (such as an outdoor deck or a workbench), lay out the previously painted wood slats and the unpainted natural wood slats. Arrange them in an alternating pattern to create the visually dynamic design. It's helpful to use other pieces of wood or spacer blocks to maintain consistent gaps between the slats, if a gap is desired. Position horizontal support pieces (these are typically narrower wood strips or metal channels that run perpendicular to the slats) across the back of the arranged slats. Using a cordless drill/driver, secure each vertical slat to the horizontal supports with appropriately sized wood screws. Repeat this process to create multiple identical or varied panels as needed for the full privacy screen system.
Goal: Construct the individual panels of the privacy screen by securely joining slats to supports.
Tools and materials
- Cordless Drill/Driver DeWalt — For efficiently driving screws to assemble the privacy screen panels
- Horizontal Support Pieces — To hold the vertical slats together as a rigid panel. These could be wood strips, metal channels, or composite bars
- Measuring Tape — For accurate placement and spacing of slats and support pieces to ensure a precise assembly
- Painted Wood Slats — The pre-painted vertical elements that contribute to the contrasting design of the screen
- Pencil — For marking screw locations and alignment points on the wood pieces
- Safety Glasses — To protect eyes from wood splinters, dust, and any debris generated during drilling
- Unpainted Wood Slats — The natural wood vertical elements that complement the painted slats in the screen's design
- Wood Screws — To securely fasten the vertical slats to the horizontal support pieces
