A simple and effective tutorial on how to turn a couple prowood 2x4s in to a useful jobsite horse!

What happens here

Using four of the cut 36-inch 2x4 boards, construct two 'A-frame' leg structures. For each A-frame, take two boards and position them so they form an 'A' shape, with the top ends overlapping slightly and the bottom ends splaying out to create a wide, stable base. Use a nail gun to securely fasten the overlapping ends at the top. Drive multiple nails through the joint to ensure a strong connection. Repeat this process to create the second identical A-frame leg structure.

Goal: Create two sturdy A-frame leg assemblies for the sawhorse's support.

Tools and materials

  • Nail Gun — Securing the 2x4 boards together to form the A-frames
  • Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes from errant nails or wood splinters
  • Nails — Fastening the wood pieces together
