A special repair flange with an expandable rubber gasket is used. First, place wood shims around the drain opening to support the flange at the correct height, level with the finished floor. Insert the repair flange into the old cast iron pipe. Use a long-handled screwdriver or nut driver to alternately tighten the four Allen screws on the inside of the flange. This action compresses the rubber gasket, expanding it outward to create a strong, watertight seal against the inside of the old pipe. Finally, drive screws through the flange into the wood subfloor to secure it firmly in place.
