With access to the valve, identify the four connected pipes: the hot water inlet, the cold water inlet, the outlet pipe going up to the shower head (shower riser), and the outlet pipe going down to the tub spout (tub drop). Using a tubing cutter, carefully cut each of the four copper pipes. It's recommended to cut the tub drop pipe first. Continue cutting the remaining pipes. Before making the final cut, securely hold the valve body to prevent it from falling and potentially damaging other pipes. Once all four pipes are cut, the old valve can be removed.
